He (Mo) sure had a bad season. There were all kinds of excuses for it and I'm sure his skills are still there. However, it remains to be seen if he ever can compete at the same level he did a couple of years ago. It's a shame tho....
Specifically, what sort of problems was he having? I didnt really see much of the Stars play in 03/04, but I've heard a lot of people say Mo played like crap. Was his shooting off? has he lost a step speed wise? Was he just making poor decision? Was he being lazy? Avoiding physical contact? Was he concentrating too much or too little on defense?
Personally I don't think it was a real bad season. I'm ok to say Stars could do better that's normal. The problem was the beginning of the season (1st half) when we was around 12 - 13 th of western conference and a 6-1 killing lost against Detroit. But in the second half of the season I'm sure that we had one of the best team of the nhl (like I remember a 4-0 win colorado). the stars worked a lot to finish 5th for sure.
My opinion on this : I think the problem is not the player who getting old or anything else. I think it's tippett the problem I don't want to bash him because (86-47-27) is a very good result. but since he is here he tries some experience, (eg : 1st match of the playoffs putting Zubov as a foward or modano in PP was often around the net whereas before he take the place of a D-man for his slapshot) and rarely goods one. It's not the worst Coach too but I think if the stars want to be a challenger to the stanley cup they need a coach who can do that.
