BOB showed some metal tonight.

I think what our young rookie netminder did tonight was better than a shutout in a few important ways.He showed tremendous character and grit after being down 2 to nothing early in the 1st period after a few quirky goals went in behind him.....He picked himself up by his boot straps and fought through the cobwebs and played lights out the rest of the game.
Getting behind early 2-0 in the first game back after sitting the bench for awhile is any goalies worst nightmare, especially when one of the goals is a little quirky riccochet off the back of a leg etc...I have a lot of respect for the way he hung in there and got the job done stopping 38 of 40 shots.....That kind of grit cannot be taught ! Excellent game tonight !

edit: not to be a dick, but I think the word you meant to use was "mettle". Cheers!

I hope he gets to play the next 2 or 3 games. He looks like he's ready and will kick some more ass.

I agree. As the game progressed I started seeing his confidence resurface.

Very important game for him to get some confidence back. It's great to have both goalies close to their A game

I was going to say during the game, the team needs to steal a win for Bob to get back into form. Something to boost his confidence. But damn last night after that second goal went in, Bob went into angry flying mullet mode. He seemed to see everything, sorted out his rebounds, made an unbeliable glove save on hecht in the slot. I still don't know how he saved that.

That's "mettle" not metal. Did you go to Michigan State like Coatesy?

The Flyers have scored 5 goals in a row just twice this season, both were against the Sabres.

Great performance by Bob tonight. First goal couldn't have been saved. The Sabres had two or three whacks at it in the crease. That's on the defense. The second goal was a softie; he'd be the first to tell you. He has to hug the post in that situation, but it was his first time playing in weeks, so he had to have been rusty. After that, he was lights out. 38 out of 40 and a shutout for 2 periods is very impressive. His confidence was rising with each save. I'd like to see him start the next one, although I feel Lavy is just making sure Bob doesn't get too rusty and he's saving him for the homestretch and playoffs. And, um, Steve Coates went to Michigan Tech, not State.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Coatesy went to Michigan Tech, not State.

Check your facts before you "meddle" with other people's grammar.

And for the record, anyone who's fans of metal music knows that the saying "That's ****ing metal" is a phrase used for something awesome. So I agree. Bob was ****ing metal tonight.

They'll almost certainly split the back-to-back games on Thurs/Fri.

I'm not sure others didn't notice that - which surprises me.

Richie is Cannon as Bob is Metal.

rookies are going to be up and down, add to the fact that goaltender is the toughest position to play in the NHL and he stepped in from a inferior league into the NHL basically overnight I say hes been fine. He has had his poor moments but you are going to get that with a young kid.

I firmly beileve that this will be Bob's bounceback game and he will gain much confidence from the win. He went through some adversity and now that he's proven to himself that he is as good as he thinks, it will make him a stronger netminder. Either way, I love this team and in the third period we made Buffalo look like an AHL team.

This was a team bounce back. Bob was excellent for the most part, but I think the team really picked it up and supported him. I think if we would have lost last Saturday to the devils you could hav eposted this thread. Boosh won that game for us, as the team idin't play after we went up 2. Good teams do this, and we are really starting to be a good team. 5 on 5 I don't think we can be beaten, our PP and PK can be better and they are starting to show life. If Carter and Claude can join the team and get their scoring going we will be dynamite. But our goaltending has been excellent, and it was nice to see Bob get the win. I play Boosh on Thursday and then give the kid atlanta and the rangers this weekend. OT- on VS lastnight they said that Pronger might join the team in Boston, anybody else hear this?
