Rangers Prospect Poll: #11

On the hills of his excellent season, Ethan Werek took the final spot as our top prospect. He's about where Dubinsky was at the same stage of development, so let's hope he's willing to work just as hard to improve himself and will become as good as Dubinsky.

The vote to add a new name to the vote was:

1. RW Dale Weise: 12
2. D Mikhail Pashnin: 6
3. C Andrew Yogan: 4
4. G Chad Johnson: 1

Don't forget to write-in who should be added in the next round.

TOP PROSPECTS

1. C Derek Stepan
2. LW Chris Kreider
3. RW Mats Zuccarrello-Aasen
4. D Michael Sauer
5. D Dylan McIlrath
6. D Ryan McDonagh
7. LW Evgeny Grachev
8. RW Christian Thomas
9. LW Carl Hagelin
10. C Ethan Werek

Ethan Werek

Going with Fasth. Would have loved to squeeze him in the top10, but there are just too many prospects who could make a difference on the Rangers down the road. He had a pretty good WJC to boot.

Add Yogan, I'm running out of prospects I am familiar with, however.

Gonna go with Horak here, Fasth next and then V-Tank.

Add Yogan too, I guess. Would've liked to see him play this year but you have to figure he has potential if he was originally pegged to go in the late 1st.

Awesome to see we have 12-13 really solid prospects in the pipelines.

Was a close call between Roman Horak and Jesper Fasth because Fasth had a great WJC, but I just couldn't overlook Horak's great season in the WHL. He'll hit 90-100 points in the most defensive of the three Canadian Junior Leagues.

Gordie Clark loves him: "He just got better and better and more and more confident. When I saw him in the playoffs, it was 60 minutes of just intense skating and banging. He was right in the middle of it, and I couldn't be more pleased."

He's also gained about 15-20 pounds since he was drafted, though another 10-15 pounds would definitely help a lot.

He has terrific speed, kills penalties, excellent offensively, and improving the rest of his game. Horak deserves the top spot among the second-tier prospects.

Add Chad Johnson.

Was he already injured at draft time or did he slipped down to the 4th round and then got injured?

I never saw him, but if he slipped to the 4th round only because of injury, he should be up there now. If he slipped to the 4th round and then got injured on top of that, I can't be overly optimistic about his future.

Looking at those 6 players up there, there's not one of them who's not a worthy prospect. I would not want to trade any of them for an old vet who be rented for the playoffs.

This Fasth kid might be pretty good.

But i voted for Bourque. I just think with the bloodlines and the work ethic hes going to surprise people, a la Callahan.

If he grew into Callahan's frame (i.e. adding a couple inches and 20 pounds) I might agree. Already, concussions and nagging injuries have become an issue for Bourque, while playing in one of the smaller and less intensely-physical junior leagues. I just don't see him holding up against bigger, stronger professional competition.

I'd love for him to prove me wrong though.

I look at Max Campbell. imo, his #'s aren't that bad considering Western Michigan is not and has not been a good team the past 4 years. Anyway, went with Bourque and the rest of what I see here pretty much rounds it out.

Vtank, add Pashnin.

After watching the WJC, there is absolutely no way Horak should be ahead of Fasth, no way at all!!!

Fasth shouldn't even be ranked as low as he is. He was as important to his team as Kreider was to his in the tournament.

Seems like I've been voting for Valentenko in one way or another since these polls began. Add Chad Johnson.

The list still seems pretty strong. Agree on Bourque--love how he plays--just don't know if can take the pounding stepping up a level or two.

Max Campbell has been purely a power play specialist the first three years in college, producing little 5-on-5. Being good on the power play is nice and all, but not enough.

But this year he's scoring a point per game. I haven't seen him, nor even his scouting report for this year, but I cannot imagine that he can score so much on the PP that he is able to use that alone to get point per game.

He may well play himself into a contract if he keeps it up. I wouldn't mind bringing him to Hartford to show us what he's got.
