I've been sick the last 36 hours, extreme dizziness and lots of attempted sleep, but does this article actually say that Slats might move Gaborik!?

They aren't actively seeking to move him, but if a team were to inquire about him, they would listen to offers. To sum it up, Gaborik is not "untouchable."

I can't imagine any team being interested in him. It's a bad contract. Not on the level of Redden, Drury, Gomez, but a $7.5 million cap hit for an injury prone player is not going to be easy to move.

I would entertain a deal around that Schenn + Hickey + pick in all honesty -- would make the Rangers better in a year or two, but definitely hurts in the now. He does project as a top line center doesn't he?

It's a risky deal obviously so it should give everyone pause

gaborik is our only legitimate sniper. hes not gonna be moved. dude is either

a. hurt

b. lacking confidence

c. lacking linemates

i liked gaby with sean avery actually. sean can skate with gaby and create space. he was a good linemate for gaby.

gaby has been very pedestrian but moving him is crazy talk.

fix the freeekin powerplay. thats our achilles heal.

Looks to me like he is missing those first initial explosive steps when shooting the gaps. I'm leaning towards A.

Cue something based around Gaborik for Malkin.

And before anyone says pittsburgh would be crazy, can you think of a better linemate for Crosby? If I were them I'd do it.

Top prospect + a 1st is what Burke the Fool would ask for. Realistically, he's worth a solid prospect and a 2nd.

To be honest i'd give up a first for Kaberle if this team had Richards.

I'd give up a late 1st as well, considering we have two 2nds.

The thing is we are in a good situation right now. Were in the thick of the playoff hunt from the 1 seed to the 9 seed. We can wait it out a month to see if we NEED to pick up another Dman for a Vet presence. If McD plays the way he has there might be no need, even though Slats might go out and get one anway.

What a great 1-2 on the PP point: Gonchar and the protege MDZ. We would have to send some salary back - and to Sather's credit there are not too many candidates left - but anyone like the idea?
Was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately he's a 35+ contract with 2 years to run at $5.5MM a pop. Can't afford that.

Regehr, on the other hand, I think we can afford.

No sense in trading Gaborik. You'll never get a player as good as him back for him. The goal should be to sign Richards so that you make Gaborik worth the money you're paying him. Transform Gaborik from a guy teams can usually eliminate from being a factor into a dangerous weapon no matter how much defenses try to shut him down by giving him a guy that can get him the puck under even the heaviest of pressure.

If we had Richards, I would as well. I love Kaberle, but getting Richards, if he is available, should be priority one.

If it turns out that he isn't, then I would make a serious effort to get Kabs.

At this point and time i don't see us needing a veteran presence, at least just yet. Given, we can't go in with 4 unproven defensemen in the playoffs. I feel like Gilroy and McD would become liabilities in playoff play. Del Zotto and Eminger would likely as well. I only have confidence in Staal, Girardi, and Sauer.

After that, defensively, I'd say i have most confidence towards Del Zotto (as out of Gilroy McD and himself he has the most experience) and then i'd say McD because lately, after getting rid of those initial jitters, he's showing that he's very defensively and positionally sound. The only problem is his lack of experience. To put such responsibility on such an unexperienced group is very risky. We all saw what happened during the final 10 minutes against the Canucks. That was playoff intensity and we were pinned in our own zone. I know everyone is under the sentiment that we have a legitimate chance to go the end this year, and I certainly feel that if healthy, we will have as good a shot as anyone to get there. However, if we look at the Flyers and Canadiens teams of last year (2 teams not expected to get to the EC finals yet did), we can see that their defenses had experience.

I mean right now, McD is looking like a hell of a prospect. Soon he'll be on our 2nd line pairing. Gilroy is showing how offensively talented he is. Tonight, running the point, he seemed like the missing link that made our entire power play flow. Eminger and Sauer have been solid but still not as defensively strong as Staal and Girardi. We are likely going to need another veteran defender that we can count on for the playoffs. The intensity rises, and I think everyone will just feel more comfortable with more experience.

Of course, but come playoff time It might not be smart to have your veteran D man on the blue line be Eminger.

I know wolski isnt the same type of player richards is, BUT i like the way he has played with gabby so far. I know its only been two games but they look good together. And just watching Wolski's actions, he seems to enjoy playing with gabby.
