Major Trade; Top Prospect for ??????

Per late 11/13/11 Eklund Tweet:

Don't be shocked if a major trade comes down in Philly soon. Flyers to deal a top prospect to address a major need. Told>"Wheels in motion"

... I know that many here will immediately feel that that means a major deal will NOT be done... but I'm interested to know what people feel that major need is and who the Flyers top prospect would it be... and who are they after.

Could it be a JvR for a goalie... Vokoun?

Would they give a major prospect for a rental if the felt that would bring them the Cup?

Who do you feel are considered the Flyers top prospects?

I personally would hate to give up JvR for a one year player... not that I have any clue on who and what Eklund is talking about.

We have a top prospect?

At least you went to twitter, instead of giving his site hits.

Bold prediction by the guy after Holmgren basically announced that he was trying to trade for Langenbrunner.

Bringing Walker off LTIR pretty much takes away most of the flexibility we had if we were going to bring in a "big name" without subtracting from the current roster.

Beat me to it.

edit: Leighton is in the AHL now, does that make him a prospect?

Eklund. I'm surprised anyone gives him any attention anymore.

Our top prospect is either Eriksson or Bobrovsky depending on who you ask. JVR technically isn't a prospect anymore. If you're just talking about young players with lots of unreached potential then, yeah, JVR is probably our best one.

Our biggest need is, by far, goaltending. I think that's been obvious every since Emery got injured. A face-off specialist would be nice too, but we already have four centers and another two that are capable of playing center (Giroux and Powe).

He's been pretty decent if you look since last summer.

That being said, I'm not sure an Eklund rumor needs a thread distinct from a trade deadline thread. The man throws everything he "hears" out there... it is what it is.

That's actually his job... to pass along almost everything he hears.

But as for this being its own thread; to me it is interesting discussing the questions I asked:

Who is our top prospect?

What is our major need?

Would Homer trade the top prospect for a rental to win the Cup this season?

and,

Is JvR considered a prospect at this point in time (I believe he is) ... could he be moved?

However if the moderators want to move it, that is fine with me... It's up to them.

JvR has hit his stride, and is developing nicely.

Could Zherdev be considered a prospect?

Bob won't be moved. Given the amount of attention he has garnered and the support from the fanbase, it seems highly unlikely.

Bart has a low cap hit, so we could not trade him for anything top end.

I guarantee Walker is waived or traded, but no team should have the balls to actually acquire him.

Overall, very skeptical of this.

im guessing nodl is our top prospect on the roster, he is playing with richards and may have come into his own. could garner more value then most would expect
our biggest need is size at the wing position, which gives nodl some credence of moving as wed be creating a hole to fill one.

off the roster id say the top prospects are kalinski legein and wellwood at forward and gus and bourdon at defense. i see it as whos most likely to be called up not necesarrily on potential

I also consider Nodl a prospect, but I only move him for a goalie, and only if we dont have to give up even more draft picks.

So basically, I can't move him if I'm GM. I'd probably be a bad GM.

edit: also I just wouldnt move Nodl. I like how he's looked this season. He struck me as being very fast tonight.

That would be interesting since Brodeur is signed through 2011-12 at $5,2M and is in our Division... Cap money would have to be moved in addition to Nodl -- over $4M -- and it would be harder to sign Leino to boot... Still an interesting notion just the same. Hmmm... He couldn't... he wouldn't... could he?

Maybe it's Bart or Wellwood?

I can't see Bob being move. I swear if Homer moves him, I'm gonna riot in the streets.

Given the lack of most things in the cupboard, Wellwood would have more value to us as a black ace than as tradebait.

Our top prospects are Bob and Eriksson

the return is question is Vokoun

The Panthers have Markstrom up and coming....they wouldn't need/want Bob or Eriksson. I think that helps put the pieces together a bit more.

But I'll gladly give up Leighton, Walker, Zherdev, Carle for Vokoun

Oh Eklund. Even at the tiny chance that this will actually happen, I hope Wellwood isn't part of it. I want to see more of this kid.

JVR is NOT a prospect. He's been a full-time NHL player for the better part of one and a half seasons.

cant deal a propsect only unless for another prospect or someone not making a lot of $ as we all know. Maybe they will reacquire Maroon to take over the "top prospect" tag then turn aroudn and deal him.

stillman would not be my first or second choice.

Anything less than JVR and i'm a happy bunny. I would be quite willing to ship of Nogoal for any scoring help for richards and JVR.

Agreed. Take anyone in the AHL, I'd be fine with Nodl too. Eriksson I'd rather not, but if we must, so be it. Just please no JVR or Bob. (Unless the piece coming the other way is a bargain, and not a rental.)

The validity of this rumor is pretty much null since The Flyers have literally no "top prospects" that could garner enough attention or trade value to be considered a major trade. Holmgren isn't stupid enough (despite popular belief) to trade JvR or Bobrovsky. Eriksson on the other hand I could see being dealt.

Also, on top of all that the team is strapped for cap space again with Walker coming off of LTIR. So the trade would have to start with an important roster player.

None of it makes sense... Oh Eklund
