I honestly don't know if your serious, Markov still has a career in front of him, you don't just lose talent. Yes - he will have to take time to rehab, but the body is an amazing tool, if Markov wants it enough he can get back to his former self.

nah you're right we don't need him he's a injury prone and Gauthier will find a guy of the UFA market better for less money. Our D is doing fine right now it's mid-season and Hammer and Spcek don't look exausted at all. The way we are good with young players Subban or Weber will win the norris next year!
They look tired because there has been that void off and on for 2 1/2 years now. Not necessarily because it's Markov missing but that constant void that somehow needs to be filled when he goes down.

It's true that any d-man can get injured at any time but Markov's chances will be greater. He's not near game shape and won't be for how long? That may take a year.

If Gauthier give Markov a 1 or 2 years deal I hope he sign somewhere else and have a chance to win a cup

That's fine and dandy, but I think other teams will offer more. People said the same thing as Gaborik and look at the deal he got.

I think he will be better with more experience and a healthy knee, but don't give him more than $11,000,000.00 for two season's to start off with, so $5,500,000.00 per season and they see after that.

Markov ($5,500,000.00) - Wisniewski ($3,000,000.00)
Gorges ($2,500,000.00) - Subban ($875,000.00)
Gill ($2,000,000.00) - Spacek ($3,833,000.00)

Total for defense = $17,708,000.00

Note: This is almost $5,000,000.00 less than we are spending this season which we can put towards a better first line centre or even another winger to play with Gomez and Gionta etc.

They look tired because they can't do the job. That's why I want Markov sign next year and at least one of Hammer or Spacek gone and replace one of them by a younger player

Do you seriously assume the guy is an idiot and is unable to grasp the situation as you can no matter what he says to the media? Obviously he'll know that he cannot get what he would've got before the injury and that he will have to go for a shared risk contract, unless a team is dumb and goes to offer him something like 35-45M/5-6 years. But I really doubt it, and if the money is similar to another offer even if slightly lower I'm pretty sure he'll stay here.

I'm happy if truly in his mind he believes he'll be better, and I sure hope he will get there (33 y.o. is really not that old for a talented defenseman btw). That doesn't mean he'll ask for a bigger contract NOW, but he might be willing to sign a shorter contract and prove that he deserves more, which would make perfect sense.

I'm sure Markov will work his ass off to come back as strong as possible but... intentions and desire doesn't mean anything when it comes to someone's body. If his leg is weaker than before there's nothing he can do about it.

Let's hope for the best.

Not worried about him getting a raise. Markov doesn't have a leg to stand on in contract talks.

Impressive isn't it?

Here's my own prediction for the future, a bit more than a 1 year from now, some people who look stupid for some of the comments they've written about Markov.

Let's see whose better at predicting the future lol

Threads like these are the ones that demonstrate which fans are in touch with reality and which are not.

If Montreal let Markov slip away, it will be the dumbest move in habs management since Roy, easily.

Markov is a top 10 d-man in the nhl, these guys aren't easily replaceable and there are non-available to replace.

Markov will be the biggest name on the market this July and a lot of teams will be bidding, especially the Wings as they'll be looking for someone to replace Lidstrom for the next 5 years.

Markov needs to be locked-down, no ifs, ands or buts.

Obviously he's not useful to us now, he's injured.
Is Gorges useful to us now?..

We need those two players.

The fact Markov might fall into the injury prone category will surely have an influence on his contract. He won't be signing a huge deal this summer. If we're able to lock him up at the same salary, I'd be extremely happy.

There is no doubt we need Markov. Will he be injured for a long period again next year?..For a guy of Markov's talent, it's a risk I'm willing to take.

No-brainer IMO...especially with how loyal he's been to the Habs organization, it would be classeless to do what so many posters here want and to just dump him off this offseason.

If the Habs don't offer him a good contract in the off season there will be at least 10 teams that will on July 1.

With the forward depth we have in Hamilton and the flexibility it gives our forwards salary-wise, I'd be willing to add some of that $5m to our defense, bring in a guy like Regehr or Phillips and buy out Spacek. Spacek can be bought out for 2/3s + Regehr at under $3m or Phillips at $4m and you're only adding a couple million over Spacek's current salary. We need to go younger.

Markov, Wisniewski, Gorges, Subban, Regehr/Phillips, Weber and Gill which we could do for about $20m. That's a top 5 D core.
