Rangers dominance over the West

The Rangers are now 9-4-0 against the West after beating Vancouver yesterday, and in the process beating some of the better teams from that conference (Dallas, Vancouver & Nashville). Seeing as though the East's record is mediocre at best against the West, this stellar record has been a distinct advantage for NY over other Eastern teams. This fact has seldom been talked about so far.

In comparison, here are the other teams in the East seeded 1-8, in no particular order

Washington vs. the West 3-4-0
Pittsburgh vs. the West 7-4-1
Boston vs. the West 1-3-2
Philadelphia vs. the West 3-3-3
Montreal vs. the West 4-4-1
Tampa Bay vs. the West 4-5-1
Atlanta vs. the West 6-5-2

(I quickly went through the schedule & scores, might be off by a game or two)

I'd say: Job well done so far!

I don't think a few regular season games mean much. Playoff series are always more indicative of where the better conference is.

I mean, good on the Rangers for making the most out of their chances against these teams, but I'd prefer to see them doing better against the East, being that we'd have to get past them all in the playoffs.

So should we get to the SCF we would have the best chances to win it. Now the only little problem that remains is getting there

Nice little collection of stats there.

Hey, the Rangers are a good team. I think thats evident now. Its sustaining it, staying healthy and being able to continue to play the game thats got them here thats going to be the real answer.

Are they built for the playoffs? Their game sure is. But getting there is the first step. Its nice to see what theyve done thus far and to think about the chances they have agaisnt the big squads... but for me - the real positive is knowing that a majority of these guys and the core are really young, and we have a coach that knows how to motivate them.

Example... Staal turned 24 yesterday. 24.

Just so you know, for the future, you can go to NHL.com -> standings and there you have the statistics of vs West and vs East (and each division is separated as well). http://www.nhl.com/ice/standings.htm...02011&type=XVW

While this is quite impressive, since games against the other conference are important as well (look at Boston 1-3-2 while they are one of the more dominant teams in the East), it is more important to be able to beat teams from our conference first. Afterall, we do have to go through three of them first before we can even think about facing one from the other conference. Plus, we have to remember that the playoffs is a best of 7, not a one game knockout.

Isnt there only one playoff series between the West and East? It is an overall better indicator of the East vs. West for all of the regular season.

Anyways, it's cool but really does not mean much. You would rather win against the east in 4 point games, instead of the west in 2 point games.

Dominance? Winning games by the skin of your teeth is not exactly dominance.

well be fine if we can get our scoring back. defense wise weve been great, and were a hard working team that blocks more shots than probably any team out there. we just need to be able to capitalize on those chances and score more.

Rangers are playing well but let's be reasonable and try to beat the Flyers for a change. Sunday!

I think that this is a great stat considering we lost almost every game against western competition eithe rlast year or the year before.

A nice turn around.

I do like the effort vs the "better teams". Had to laugh at the Nuck fans getting all bent about last nights game. It was great game and they just couldn't handle losing to the Rangers 1-0 at MSG

Guess it brought back some memories

Really great to see since the West typically dominates out of conference games.

Really proud of how this team is playing this season. They come out with a fire under their ass despite what conference the opposing team is in.

Definitely a breath of fresh air considering we used to lose every game against the West. Weren't we 0-9-3 until beating SJ on a sunday afternoon at the Garden a few years ago?

For those who say that the playoffs will be the real test for this team... that is only somewhat true. The playoffs are a total crapshoot. The Rangers could just as easily win the cup as they could be a first round exit, the same goes for any other team in the playoffs.
