No timetable, like others have said. I think he's good for 30-40 points, so I'm sure you could easily find another replacement.

certainly makes sports hernia seem more likely, though it could also be his back, of course.

If we do see sully back, I suspect he will be playing in pain. But if he wants another contract, anywhere, he'll have to try to finish the year. I just hope if he does come back he can be effective.

My guess is sports hernia, the reason being the specialist that he and a few other guys have seen in the past is based out of St. Louis and that's where he went a few weeks ago. Just a guess but an educated one I hope.

Honestly, I just hope he plays a game for us again EVER. At the same time, I totally understand if he packs up and leaves for health reasons. Having had three concussions, I can say they are no fun, and can really screw you up long term.

Why do you think I have been looking at trading Lombardi's contract to a club with max cap for a salary dump and a pick. Lombardi scares the ever living crap out of me. He had a 10 month stint on the IR for his first concussion and his second is long too. I've had 1 BAD concussion in my life and that alone changed my life. It changed my personality, my short term memory, and my depression. If he calls it a career, you know what, more power to him.

First, can you even trade a guy on IR?? And even if you can there is no way a team takes on Lombardi's uninsured contract with 2 more years plus the rest of this one... yes they can get cap relief as long as he stays on LTIR but what if he comes off? then they are back in cap hell with a guy with a tender noggin...

and just like Stu Grimson didnt retire until after hed been paid both years of his contract, Lombardi has no reason to retire and forfeit 7 million clams... he may have already decided he will never play again, but we wont know it for sure until summer 2013..

Not to my knowledge, no. Besides, no one is going to just up and do us a favor by taking a player that will likely never suit up for them off our hands. We've made our bed, and the only way the sheets change is if Lombardi retires which, like you said, he has no reason to do.

You only get cap relief if you are over the roof and dont have the right number of active rosters.
Otherwise even the salary of LTIR counts against the cap...

Sucks for us all, but I honestly don't see Lombardi playing a second this season and questionable for the next. 8 lbs lost and no workouts since the injury. I believe he's done.

exactly. even if he is symptom free by say mid february, it would take a month just to get back in shape and the another two weeks in Milwaukee to get up to speed. if we make the playoffs i cant imagine trotz disrupting the chemistry by inserting what would essentially be a new player into the top 6.

lets just keep our fingers crossed for next year

Updated the title to reflect our current laundry list of injuries. FWIW, Svatos had his knee scoped prior to the ASG and was expected to miss a minimum of two weeks. I'd say he and Sullivan are closest, but don't count on them returning yet. Everyone else is out indefinitely...

Even though Sulzer isnt crapping the bed out there, if Cube looks like he's going to be out a while I look for us to add dman via trade, and likely sooner rather than later. We are one more injury away from having to either skate a Milwaukee player with 0 NHL games or Belak on D.

Agree.

I'm not going to go into a lengthy review of the articles I've read lately or the interviews I've seen and heard about concussions, but there seems to be consensus that anything over three months is a major, potentially very dangerous situation. One neurologist that deals with alot of sports injuries said that anything over four months with any type of history at all and he recommends that his patients completely quit any contact sports forever. Lombardi is sitting at about 16 weeks from his injury.

There's the short term problem of the Preds never addressing the #1 center position, there's the mid term problem of an uninsured multi-year contract for a player we may never see again, and of course the long term problem of Lombardi just getting right for his own quality of life. It's screwed up on a bunch of levels.
