Lehtivuori back to Finland (KalPa)

RT @euroflyers: Rumor taking Phantoms D Joonas Lehtivuori to Kalpa in Finland. Looks pretty likely right now.

RT @euroflyers: Kalpa GM Sami Kapanen just confirmed the Lehtivuori signing. "The deal was done an hour ago. He should play for Kalpa on Tuesday."

Lehtivouri has been a healthy scratch 6 of the last 16 games

It wouldn't surprise me if Kalpa is actually better than the Phantoms.

i would guess that there other circumstances we do not know about as of yet besides his play (though it was not good )imo. He should be playing ahead of guys who are not viewed as prospects yet he wasnt. Wonder why.

I'd say they're significantly better.

Gotta be more to this. More expert prospect handling by the Flyers.

It's not a termination of the contract, and he wasn't told to get lost like with Maroon. He was loaned back to Finland for the rest of this season and will return next year.

Eh. He didnt have a good season. Was constantly scratche and defensively looked terrible from last season. A shame since last season as a rookie he was the Phantoms best defender.

Lehtivuori was never mentioned as one of the players with locker room issues, so I'm not so sure why coaching was ever brought up in this thread.

Another thing to keep in mind is that while Lehtivuori has been a healthy scratch recently, it's not as if he's been playing particularly worse than others to earn that. Pretty much everyone on the Phantoms without many exceptions has been scratched in and out for lengthy and more brief periods of time this year.

It's also important to note that KalPa is a better, more competitive team than the Phantoms. It could end up doing much better things for his development. Plus, Timonen (8%), Hartnell (5%), and Kapanen (50.5%) all have shares in KalPa's ownership. To me this sounds like an internal push to get Lehtivuori developing in a different environment. I'd be shocked if this discussion did not involve all of Timonen, the Flyers' organization, the staff with the Phantoms, and Lehtivuori himself.

I don't know. I'm not the one who would be surprised. A lot of people probably think this is a step back for Lehtivuori though, so they might be surprised. I see this as more of a situation where the Phantoms have too many guys and this option makes a lot of sense to get all of the guys playing time.

Really you think? what would give you that idea. I would highly doutb kimmo any had any say or was even asked about this decison at all. So yo think he still has a shot to possibyl unseat Carle next year? Could be a case of i am taking my ball and going home as he didnt like being a healthy scratch. Bottom line is his play sucked this year and if the coaches thought he wasnt playing worse than anyone else he would be playing..

I understand Timonen investing in a team from his home country, but why in the world did Hartnell buy 5%? Just because they were teammates in Nashville?

Hartnell had too much money and Timonen recommended to buy part of KalPa. Timonen wasn't so serious but Hartnell tought it was good idea.

I think he bought that 5% recently. Hartnell spoke about it briefly, i think in a post game interview or something, and said he was talking to Timonen at a bar between games about investing his money and Kimmo brought it up and they made it happen. That's about the gist of what he said anyway.

It must be a profitable venture.

Minor League baseball has been a very good investment. I would think that Pro Hockey in Finland... where the sports competition is what, curling? would be a very nice investment which would be fun at the same time for a guy like Hartnell. Besides Finish women are worth an excuse to hang out in the country.
I think that the Flyers strategically would be wise to have a relationship with a Finnish league team. Sami was a solid player here so why not do him a solid? Right now Lehtivuori probably needs a fresh start and this makes sense since we still control his rights.

Exactly. There was a video clip of Hartnell explaining it on the Flyers' site at one point.

I just hope he does come back and play sometime in the future for the Flyers. Him, plus Marshall, Bourdon, Eriksson and Gustafsson are really our only future players for this team in any sense.
