And a good morning to you folks. Here's the morning roundup so far:

Steve Zipay reports on Montreal's Team 990 that Biron will start tonight.

Andrew Gross reports that the Fedotenko - Boyle - Prust line was allowed to sit out of yesterday's practice. Also, a writeup on Ryan McDonagh and his settling into his new role.

Jesse Spector has a writeup on Marian Gaborik's quest to end his goal-scoring slump.

I just realized that the Rangers and Habs played almost exactly a year ago against each other. It was either the 16th or 17th, but I was at that game and the Rangers won 6-2 I think. Let's hope the Rangers can repeat that!

I'm confused. Has Chris Drury really been demoted from 4th line center to 4th line wing?

Well, last 5 minutes he was subbed for MZA for defensive purposes, but it seems to look that way.

Well Dru wouldnt be the type of guy to complain about the ice time he has been getting, certainly.

But Tortorella doesn't seem to view him as much more than a utility player at this stage. He wont let him impede a good kid's minutes unless its absolutely crucial.

I think he'll get 3rd line time near the end of the season as the Boyle line slows down.

Not really. Like Fitzy said, he's accepted his utility role. When some players slow down, like the Boyle line inevitably will, it's good that we have the depth where Drury can move to take those minutes.

When you're a veteran NHL centerman (edit: with more than 1000 games played) earning $7m per year, and you're supplanted from the 4th line center position by a 28 year old AHL callup with less than 50 games of NHL experience, you sure as hell should be embarrassed. I don't care whether you've accepted your utility role or not.

Dubinsky on Subban:

Quote:
stevezipay Steve Zipay
Dubinsky on Subban slewfoot: "Hopefully he does it again, gets a penalty and we score....but we're not focused on one guy"
Andrew Gross confirms and an update on Callahan:

Quote:
AGrossRecord Andrew Gross
Newbury in, Weise out for Rangers. Newbury will center Avery and RW Drury.

Callahan said Feb. 1 return is realistic.
Official twitter confirms:

Quote:
thenyrangers New York Rangers
Henrik Lundqvist starts in goal for #NYR; Kris Newbury makes #NYR debut centering 4th line; Dale Weise to be scratched

Ryan Callahan hops on ice after team skate to work out with Vinny Prospal and coaches; says target date 4 return is after All Star break

Torts on Newbury: "he adds some bite...played well in the American League, put up some points...want to take a look at him"

Newbury: "I am very excited (Torts) is giving me this opportunity...it's thrilling to play..this is a great place to play, great atmosphere"

McDonagh says playing #Habs is "no big deal"; Torts says "McDonagh deserves to stay right now...he's getting better and better each game"
Zipay adds a bit on Newbury:

Quote:
stevezipay Steve Zipay
Newbury: "Just looking to create some energy, taking the body. Big key is staying out of the box."

Tortorella on Newbury between Avery, Drury: "He's done some things faceoff-wise, scored some points in the American League, want a look"

Dale Weise gets a seat for first time in seven games
Spector has goaltending matchup and a Boyle broken nose:
Quote:
NYDNRangers Jesse Spector
It will be Lundqvist vs. Price tonight in Montreal.

Rangers unhappy about cheap shots in last two games, but Tortorella says they will be "smart" and not look for revenge on Subban tonight.

Boyle says same thing, and he's still upset about Subban hitting him in nose with butt of stick. Possibly broken, definitely technicolor.

Wallpaper Tacks
  • Lundqvist vs. Price in net. Not necessarily Biron tomorrow.
  • Newbury in, Weise out.
  • Newbury is 4C. Drury slides to 4RW with Avery.
  • Torts on Newbury: "He's done some things faceoff-wise, scored some points in the American League, we want a look."
  • Callahan and Prospal on ice with coaches after practice.
  • Callahan projected to be back after All-Star break, February 1st return is realistic.
  • Staal on Burrows's spear: "I'm not going to forget about it. If he was in the All-Star game I might've tried something."
  • Dubinsky on Subban's slewfoot: "Hopefully he does it again, gets a penalty and we score. But we're not focused on one guy."
  • Boyle upset over Subban catching him with his butt-end. Nose appears broken.
  • McDonagh on "returning" to Montreal: "No big deal. I never signed here."
  • Torts on McDonagh: "McDonagh deserves to stay right now. He's getting better and better each game."
  • Boyle on Subban: "You can play physical, with an edge, without doing that. I understand guys want to play hard, but you have to have respect. League has to address these things, it's not up to us."
  • Boyle on revenge: "It's not like we put it on the board as our No. 1 priority"
  • Lines: Dubi-AA-MZA, W2-Step-Gabby, Feds-Boyle-Prust, Avery-Newbury-Drury
  • D-pairings: Staal-Girardi, Eminger-Sauer, McDonagh-Gilroy
  • Subban on his questionable play: "I'm not Sean Avery."
  • Auld on Rangers non-interest in resigning him: "I was surprised."

Haha PK says he's not Sean Avery. Yeah, I realized that when he went on a rampage and didn't get called for any of it. Thats definitely not Sean Avery.

Pretty confusing for the starting goalies. CKAC Sports is saying it's Biron-Price. Looking forward to focusing on McD & MZA live .
