I wish the caps website had some features like other teams in the league. The one that really caught my eye was having the depth chart of the team on the site. Not that it showed all the lines, but you could see and compare players and their stats by their line, by position, or select them as you wish to compare them. Pretty cool aspect of the site.
EJHradek_ESPN: Caps, Rangers, Ducks & Oilers fans might want 2 check fall fares 2 Europe. hear teams in talks 2 b among 6 to skate in 11-12 Premier Games.
EJHradek_ESPN: There could b single reg season games in 6 different european/scandinavian cities. The Caps could open in Russia. That would be smart!
That could be very cool... if it's Scandinavia. Russia? Less so. It makes sense, it's just about 20x less fun for a road trip.
That's a helluva drive either way. Also, don't know what you've got against Saint Petersburg or Moscow. Both are incredible cities. An outdoor game in one of them would be amazing.

I take a lot of road trips flying into a country and renting a car with buddies. A blast. Not doing that crap in Russia, and I've done it in Africa in total ****holes like Zimbabwe and Angola. Draw the line at Russia. At least there are armored personnel carriers shadowing you in the Caprivi Strip. Russia... now that's dangerous.
The Russia and Sweden rumors have been floating around for the last month or so. One rumor I read had the Caps playing a game in Russia against an KHL team and then playing an NHL game in Sweden but that seems like it would be a bit much.
Someone asked Leonsis tonight about the rumors (I didn't know about this most recent report at that time) and Leonsis tried to avoid answering but he definitely did not say "no" when the fan asked.
Oh, they're totally going to Russia. It's a slam dunk. Lundqvist and the Rangers to Sweden, Capitals to Russia, maybe Ducks to Finland (Selanne, Koivu, Lydman).
Sounds like there are a good number of unnamed countries too. Maybe Ducks to Switzerland (Hiller, Sbisa). Switzerland is awesome.
Who knows. I've heard the Sweden rumor more than the Russia rumor as it relates to an actual NHL 2 game series. The Russia talk was more about a scrimmage/exhibition. I think it's pretty obvious the League wants them playing overseas given the team/players. Could be Caps vs NYR in Sweden? Wait and see.
They're gonig to get highly pressured to go to Europe. They're a marquee franchise, and they're going to have to take their turn.
I know it would be fun for some of the players (Russians basically) but that's about it.
I expect it looks more like an exhibition or two in Russia (I am sure that Ted only sits for that as a mandatory) and then a 2 game series in Sweden or Finland.
Article on Alzner (and some advice from Theodore) link
maybe that wacky stuff was a factor in mcphee's slow approach with him. they dont even do O Canada but a few games a season. besides i'd think it would be frowned upon to be taping a stick during anthems anyway.
the caps very own adrian monk. "its a jungle out there"
Right before the Mojo goal, Fehr jumped on the ice for his shift. Steckel skated full-on head first into him. Fehr went to the bench hunched over, as Nicky jumped on for the assist.
I couldn't find a video but you see Fehr writhing in pain as the bench celebrates the goal.

Interesting read. Thanks for the link.
On a related note, did anyone else catch Luongo's little routine during the anthems? He had a pattern of tapping his stick in certain spots on his pads that he did the entire length of both anthems.

I caught that too. He looked like he was in serious pain on the bench. I don't know how long it was before he went to the locker room, but it definitely looked pretty bad judging by how Fehr and the trainer reacted.
more on the European games from LeBrun link; I've heard the comments by McPhee, but as others have noted, it's a League/team decision and the Caps are going to have a hard time saying no if the League wants them to start the season overseas; I'd think it's something Leonsis would support more than McPhee, but then McPhee's support of the HBO series was a surprise to this fan.
Some other updates, too, including on Owen Nolan who has been playing overseas and as discussed at the time he went to Switzerland, sounds like he still hopes to return to the NHL this season.
TXPD - Alzner's superstitious nature was well-known, nice to see as he is maturing he is eliminating some of them and I thought the Theodore comment was nice to read, a vet helping out.
The Fehr injury - it was obvious that he hurt his right shoulder; he left the bench before play resumed after the goal.
I thought I read something awhile ago that stated the Caps were asked like the first or second year to go overseas but decided against it. If that's true, it might be hard to turn down the league a second time, especially if they want to host the WC in the next couple of years.
Also, I haven't been following the contractual going-ons, but if Gordon is called up for Fehr's long absence does that mean he has to go through waivers when sent down again?
