& thus the dreams of Leaf fans across the Globe are crushed... No but seriously, since when is Bucci a source for solid info.. He's works for friggn espn... & he's a Crosby fanboy.. I respect Crosby's talent, but Bucci defends him every time somebody writes in complaining that 87 is a whiner..
So Dallas will be buyers at deadline? Makes zero sense if Dallas has no intention of paying him in the offseason, why not get something for him while his value is at its peak? Unless they really intend on signing him..?
20 other teams? So you'll name 20 teams that not only have the cap space and the need for Richards, but are in a market that he wants to play in and are in a position to contend for Stanley Cups in the near future?
If he's a free agent, there will be 3-4 realistic suitors (NYR, LAK) and probably 1-2 small market teams that have cap space to spend that will try and lure him so that they can make a PR splash, likely to no avail. And the Leafs, who only have a shot if they wildly overpay him.
Dallas is willing to pay him. That's not the hold up right now. The point is Brad wants to see how his team preforms in the playoffs. He doesn't want to sign long term with a team that folds like a cheap suit in the second season. Second, without an owner he wants Niewendyk to prove somehow that Dallas is serious about winning moving forward. Unfortunately that cannot be proven until a new owner comes aboard and starts spending money.
No one here knows what he's going to do and I'm not even sure at this point Richards knows what he's going to do but it seems fairly obvious that he'll be here till this summer and that Joe will offer him a new deal before July 1st. Whether he chooses to accept that is entirely debatable.
