Didn't he restructure his deal so he'd be more affordable? He knew he wasn't going to get his starting job back.

He sure did restructure his deal. In a classy move, he reduced his salary by apprx. $3 million a season in order to give the Flames more budget room to work with. In return, he got an extension from one year remaining on his contract to an additional three years.

Turek also had no qualms with letting Kipper run with the ball in the last half of the last season. He held the fort strongly when he was pressed into duty, and never complained about it. He was an above-average backup for the Flames, and acted professionally all throughout.

Once again, a classy move by a classy guy.

It was less than 3 million from whatI read. Basically he took his last year contract salary and divided that into 3 years of pay (3 year contract).

A fitting end to a player who never belonged in the NHL.

A fitting end to a goalie who was going to be used as a back up until he'd quit.

Let's face it, Kipprusoff has him beat, and I'm not sure if he'd get a job anywhere in the NHL at his asking price.

So yeah, he can stay home.

How many Jennings Trophies does your team's goalie have? Turek has two. The guy has a career winning percentage of .550, that's undeserving of being in the NHL? Never below .901 saving percentage, 27 career shutouts. I mean common!

I'm pretty sure that he is going to be paid by Calgary regardless. He has a guaranteed contract.

If that was the case he would have to play for them as well. He cancelled his contract and signed with another team in Europe.

He didn't cancel his contract. His agent is quoted today as

Winter said his deal with the Czech team has a clause that allows Turek to return to North America once the NHL comes to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement with its players.

"Roman will not make a final decision without a long discussion with the Flames. He's made no final decision but his plan is to allow him to stabilize his future," Winter said yesterday. "I have an idea what he'll do but I'm not going to share that."

Roman at $1.5 million a season, I would take back.

Just as long as he doesn't play more than 20-25 games a season. We can't afford to have him in there.

nope, if the leaves for Europe Flames have no Contract obligation. I have heard Sutter on the Radio talk about this.
