Philly/Detroit... Chris Osgood

alot of people talk about the goaltending in Philly, we've seen all the big name on struggling teams named... but what about a less name on a team that is not struggling? what if the Flyers targeted Chris Osgood?? We've seen threads in the past questioning of Osgood is a future HOFer... I think everyone will agree that Osgood is one of the biggest overachievers in the game... so why not try to get someoen who has been clutch like Osgood and get him behind that Philly defense?...

what would the Flyers be willing to give up?...

what would the Wings ask?

is this suggestion feasible?

to Philadelphia:
G - Chris Osgood ($1,416,667 - UFA '11)

to Detroit:
G - Brian Boucher ($925,000 - UFA '11)
3rd round pick

LOL goalie swap and a third round pick for Osgood? You'd be lucky to get a 5th for him straight up... he's too old to get a third in return.

Osgood is worse than Boucher, Bob, or even Leighton. There's no reason for Philly to do this unless they have some misconceived notion that they can get "lucky" with Osgood.

because Osgood is a proven winner in the playoffs and the Wings aren't just going to give him away for Boucher... i know Boucher has played well this season but he is so hot and cold if Bob falters in the playoffs Boucher is not someone you would want to rely on

Osgood is 38 and looks it. The Flyers would be better suited to look elsewhere.

The Flyers definitely want an injured 38 year old goalie

I think its time to give Osgood some credit here, he hasn't played much this season. However when he has played, he has played pretty well. Last year was much much worse.

The way osgood has played this year, osgood would be an upgrade to boucher. Not a huge one, but definitely an upgrade.

That being said, Philly wouldn't have to give a 3rd, i would say a 5 or a 6th.

Ozzie has played good his last 2 or 3 games, besides that he has been garbage like last year.

Even if Detroit wins this on paper, they still would never do it, it's not the way they operate. Osgood is gonna be on the Wings until he retires.

I wouldn't be surprised if Osgood got a new contract in the .7M range next year if he can prove that his body can hold up.

Loyalty sometimes isn't gonna work in your favor, but in the long haul, I guess it does.

The Wings only trade players who are lazy and careless, and they most certainly NEVER trade longtime, valued members of the organization. It's part of why they're so successful.

but they will waive long time members like Maltby? and buyout other long time members like McCarty?... the Wing may not do it very often but they do it sometimes

Front office is on record (multiple times, so please don't go on about making me dig it up) saying that they did not want to make those moves. Besides, Maltby simply retired. McCarty was a byproduct of an age where you could pay a 4th liner multiple millions.

To address the OP-I don't see why Detroit trades for a goalie swap. Doesn't really help them, I think they'd prefer Osgood.

A reasonable depth trade at F or D, they might consider. I'll warn you though-Osgood plays great within the Wings system, and not great outside of it (NYI, STL).
