Emery anyone?

According to TSN.ca, Ray Emery is close to a return to playing professional hockey. I would post a link, but it was simply a blurb within a news/notes video on their main page. Anyway, I just wanted to get your thoughts on bringing Emery back for the playoff run as an insurance policy. I thought he played very well here for the time he was healthy, and I believe that at that level he would be our best goalie right now.

Not trying to put down Emery. I think it's a valiant effort and great spirit he's showing after what he's been going through, but he isn't exactly what we'd be looking for trying to win the Cup.

Right now shouldn't it say Boucher is the guy? He is our starter right now and will likely start the playoffs not Bobrovsky.

I think he'd be somewhere in the Flyers' system rehabbing if they were interested.

I just don't see where there's room for him here. If you know 100% that he was perfectly healthy then yes, he's probably an upgrade on Boosh and Leights, and even Bob since Bob is kind of a work in progress at this point. But it was a pretty devastating injury...if we didn't have Leighton under contract I'd love to see Bob/Emery next year.

Also wouldn't he have to clear waivers to come here, just like Nabokov?

That's a good point. I kind of assumed Bob would get the nod eventually. Boucher has played well, but I can't help but be nervous going into the playoffs with Boucher as the starter. He's been very streaky for a number of years now, and I'm not sure he is reliable in that situation.

I'd like the Flyers to sign him for Adirondack and see what he can do there. Depending on how he fairs in direct comparison to Leighton, either keep him or let him walk.

Btw, Leighton's numbers actually look half decent in the AHL, but all other goalies seem to suck hard.

I 100% agree with you. As for clearing waivers, I'm not positive, but I believe Nabokov has to clear waivers because he is under contract elsewhere. Emery is a UFA, so I don't know why the NHL would make him clear waivers, although they very well might.

Not sure he's been near that stage... and has been working out with a specific Toronto based trainer.

That being said, I doubt the Flyers have that much interest at the moment given that they have a slew of AHL goalies with Leighton down there now, and the two guys playing well at the NHL level right now.

Emery really needs to get in games in one of the lower leagues and get back up to speed at this point.

A two-way contract and a spot somewhere in the minors at this point couldn't hurt, if there is a contract space available. I can't see an untested, recently seriously-injured goalie just coming in and starting in the postseason, or even down the stretch for a first-place team. A healthy Emery could be an asset to the organization in 2011-12 and beyond.
As a FA, I could see him choosing another option where he might get to play in the NHL this season.

Bobo should be our future, and we don't wanna test our current chemistry for someone recovering for an almost career ending injury.

Maybe in the off season, if Boucher isn't in our future.

Right, and I don't think the Flyers' have been doing special to help in his rehabilitation process as if they are going to give him the job back.

Well, I'm not sure they could... he's an UFA. Would wager there are rules about that type of thing.

I love Emery, but I just don't see him returning to his previous skill level after such a devastating injury.

if we didnt already have 6 pro goalies I would give him an AHL tryout, but I think he'll have to go somewhere else

My first thought. Sign him to the Phantoms and tell him if he performs well then they'll look into him next season.

Even with my opinion of give him a shot in the AHL, I agree. Which is why I wouldn't want to see him any higher than the AHL.

I'd be fine with starting Emery in Adirondack, right after they successfully transplant Leighton's hips into him.

Is it possible to transplant Leighton as a whole to the ECHL?

They wouldn't do it though.
