Dallas can get a much better return for Neal.

I'd cry in joy if Steady pulled this off.

As in, this won't happen.

Not a chance Dallas do that, until Gilbert starts putting up 40 + points again he's bordering on having negative value due to his ridiculous contract.

08-09 he had 45 points

Oilers are in no position of trading Gilbert at the moment and it would take more than just Gilbert to aquire James Neal.

Edmonton tries to cement this deal before Niewendyk gets released from the head trauma ward.

Would create some interesting situations if the deal did go through. Edmonton would be short a d-man which they can't afford to do and they'd have another LW. Something that isn't needed, but a skillset like Neal is.

No way in hell Dallas takes this deal, if they would and it hasn't been done then Tambellini needs to be taken for a swim in a sewage treatment plant.

How about Niskanen for Gagner? What?! That's not fair? Ah well...it was worth a shot.

oh he will continue to put up those numbers when the team remains healthy and continue's to progress, you have to keep in mind Gilbert's playing on a team that is 15th in the west so I wouldn't be too interested in trading him at the moment, he's playing decent with Peckham and last season had chemistry with Whitney but don't know where that went.

I really like Jame's Neal, Oilers definitely would benefit from his physical play because the Oilers are very soft on up front minus the 4th line but the Oilers are in no position trading defenceman unless their last names are Vandermeer, Foster or Strudwick, so the best option would be forward for forward deal or we can toss you guys a pick or prospect depending on the roster player.

Dallas is not going to move Neal for another forward.

I'll take a healthy Ryan Whitney for Krys Barch.

Gilbert is the Oilers whipping boy (along with Cogliano) on these boards, so his value among those here is much lower than it actually would be. No Gilbert deal on HF boards will be agreed to. That said, Gilbert is what Dallas needs, just not for a player as good as James Neal.

I'm sure both clubs wouldn't do this but what about Neal for Omark(+)? I know I wouldn't want to do this but another power forward on the Oilers would not hurt.

I wouldn't trade Eberle alone for Neal buddy, so why would I add my boy Gilbert?

I think you need to rethink the real value of James Neal to the Dallas Stars.

As in, far more than one Tom Gilbert.

The Oilers desperately need defensemen
The Oilers are loaded at LW

So while Neal>Gilbert, trading their best defenseman for another LW doesn't really sound like the kind of move the Oilers would be interested in.

I thought the proposal was for Gilbert, not Whitney.
