I know being a fan means having fun by overracting, but at some point, you have to realize we've seen this movie before, and recognize where it comes from and what it means.

Games like this happen and don't particularly mean anything. It's very rare that a team will get a 4-0 lead because they are playing especially well and, likewise, it's very rare that a team will get 4 unanswered goals against because they're playing especially badly. I had my spiel all ready about how a blowout "statement game" means nothing at 4-0, and now, well, I'm just laughing my rear off.

It's hockey. Stuff happens. Goalies have bad stretches. Sometimes you get 4 goals on 8 chances, then they have 8 chances back and score 4 times back.

Collapses, blowouts, "statement games", they're actually the least meaningful games there are. Hockey is too low-scoring a game, and parity is too strong, for stuff like that to be anything more than flukes. 7-0 games mean nothing, nor do 4-0 leads nor 4-goal comebacks.

Kipper had a bad game, the Habs built a big lead, Auld had a bad stretch, the Habs ran around their own zone a bit, they won it in OT. No harm done.

Bank the two points, forget the game, move on to the next.
Very true, but... Bruins today won 7-0. They had an 8th goal called back. At the end buzzer they were trying to stuff even more rubber past Peters like they were behind 1-0. There was no quit in them.

Not really.

Actually its a team stats but it show if your goaler can win and close the book. Something Auld wasn't able to do.

It's obvious that Auld let 4 goals on purpose. PK wanted a proper OT celebration with Price.

Alot of positives in the last 2 games IMO, the transition looks good as well as the execution.. A.Kost and Eller are looking good and thats the depth we were all hoping for going into the season.. Its starting to click and I like it..
Yeah the offense looks like it's finally starting to wake up a little..

Well I was hoping for a blowout, but after the comeback, I'm happy to be walking away with 2 points. On the plus side it was a western conference team taking the single point...so no harm done.

He has been the past 6-7 games.

If you want to say Hamrlik on the season, fine.

good call to bring price in... the team settled down a bit after the goalie change... not that auld was to blame.

I remember that game. You must have blocked out the memory of the third period. I don't blame you! The Habs had a 7-1 lead after two, and in the end won 7-5.

Four unanswered goals in the third. Of course the Habs mailed it in, but still. Murray was quoted as saying, "I thought we were going to win the hockey game". I think 23000 fans thought he was right.

The last game between the two teams was a true statement game. Montreal dominated in all aspects of the game, scored one goal each period, and won 3-0.

That 7-5 game? Meaningless.

This has more to do with one GM being much shrewder than the other, and one team being considerably younger at the time, than anything to do with that 7-5 game.

BTW, remember that 6-5 comeback win against the Rangers? The Rags went on an absolute tear for the next 12 games or so.

Largely, no. The Islanders just aren't 6 goals worse than the Wings, and no NHL team loses 6-0 without some flukishness going about.

Of course, the typical "average" result would be say 4-2 Wings, so the Wings beating the Isles 6-0 is more likely than the Isles beating the Wings 6-0. But either result could happen.

Not always, but the vast majority of the time. "A notch or two above the rest" means you win 2 games out of three, typically by 1-2 goals, against that team. Not that you blow them out.

Canada will blow out Norway at the WJC every time because the ability gap is actually that big. In the NHL, there just aren't gaps like that.

Laraque just said that no one ever told him he was doing anything wrong or to change anything in his game last year. He explicitely said Martin and Gainey didn't except on the press conference where they announced his buyout...

So I guess he thought putting up zero points, fighting no one, and missing three weeks at a time every month was par for the course for a guy making $1.5 million.

What a doofus.
