For those wondering, this is purely for depth. San Jose is struggling to ice a team at the moment because of injuries and because their AHL team is literally running a short bench every game because we have called up so many players. Poor planning basically so now SJ has to get forward depth just so they can send some guys back down to the AHL.
I loved the way Eager played for Chicago: lots of energy, making big hits, providing a little lower line scoring punch. I'm guessing the Sharks noticed what he could do while facing him in the playoffs. I like this for San Jose.
The Shark's have not even decided if they are buyers or sellers yet. DW gave the guys 10 games to figure it out or he is going to sell, we are only 5 games into that. With that in mind, why would he make a trade at this point? Because the AHL team does not have a full roster and is signing guys to PTO's daily just to ice a team.
Eager allows us to send Desjardin back down. That's all.
1st and foremost, ATL has 3 guys who are all better at playing a similar game (Boulton, Thorborn, and Cormier).
2nd, he takes poorly timed, bad penalties. He cost ATL 5 goals in the 9-3 drubbing by Toronto, on a couple of REALLY dumb penalties. TML got one on a 4 min double minor that Eager took trying to goad Phaneuf into a fight. The Leafs then scored 4 goals on a 5 min major after Eager sucker-punched Armstrong.
3rd, there has been some talk that he's not all that well liked by the team. There is little to substantiate this, but after the Toronto game, I'd find it hard to believe that any of his teammates were on his side.
