Add to that constant linemates the likes of Matt Cooke, Max Talbot, Arron Asham and Mike Comrie and you also have a superstar who is playing with players who shouldn't be sniffing top-6 roles, let alone getting major minutes there.

Geno is putting up pretty decent numbers considering the fact that he's been playing with 3rd and 4th line players for the better part of two years now. Give Stamkos, Ovechkin, or Sedin that kind of support and watch their production and overall play drop precipitously.

Honestly, Malkin needs to be surrounded with talent in order to thrive. Be that a knock against him or not, it's the truth. If Geno somehow found his way to Columbus and had Nash on his line, that line would be the bane of the western conference's existence.

Or because he is young, rich, and more interested in being a manwhoring party machine than a superstar on ice.

Nash is a good player, but he gets massively overrated on HF boards, Malkin is WAYYYYYYYY better. The Pens take it up the poop chute here, half a season of mediocre play from Malkin and people are already writing the kid off, it's ridiculous. The only possible problem Columbus could have with this deal is that Malkin is signed for less time than Nash (though he's still signed for this year and 4 more), and he'd almost certainly flee Columbus the moment his deal finished.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

That gets it done for Malkin, IMO. How many Pens fans would do it remains to be seen.

I would in a second. I really don't believe Malkin is going to put it back together in Pittsburgh. Tangradi isn't going to solve anything - if he hits his potential maybe he can be 3/4ths as good as malone. But theres no chance we get a sykora type or anything with all the money locked up in D.

Depending on the quality of prospect suggested, I would do that trade, and I tend to think more of Voracek and less of Malkin than most.

In all honesty...

Nash
Filatov
1st 2011

for

Malkin

That's about what its going to take for CBJ to pry Malkin out of Pittsburgh.

Columbus gets thier franchise center, Penguins get their winger for Crosby and a potential winger for 2nd line (or Nash with Staal and Filatov with Crosby), and then an incentive piece which they would use to draft another winger.
