This is exactly what the NYR's need to make a big time offer for..Shea Weber would be perfect for the nyr!

Suter is the better player, but makes less sense for the Rangers. Shea Weber is exactly the kind of guy you want to pair with Staal, and would be perfect on the point with Del Zotto on the PP.

I don't really believe the rumor, but I'd imagine you'd have teams lining up left and right for his services.

That said, as a Boston fan I would offer:
Toronto's 1st 2011
Boston's 1st 2011
Joe Colborne
Zach Hamill

to get the conversation going. Chances are good Nashville would also want David Krejci but I'll let me GM handle the details.
Why bother with all of that. Go the offer sheet route and you can get him for 1,2,3 rounder instead of the overpayment.

1. The player has to sign the sheet.
2. Chances are good the player would get multiply offer sheets, so the player needs to pick your offer to sign.
3. Nashville has the option to match said offer sheet, so you don't get the player you want.

This all goes back to Bill Watters' idle speculation that "Nashville doesn't like to spend money, and Shea Weber 'probably' wants to go somewhere that he can be glorified." He then speculated that Shea Weber would be a hot commodity at the trade deadline.

That about sums up the validity of all of this. I don't think Nashville made Weber their youngest, first-ever-drafted captain with concerns that he 'wants out' or that they can't afford to re-sign him.

Well golly, now maybe we can understand the theory behind the trade for Kessel? Not trying to beat a dead horse or start a war, just making a point.

When Suter has been playing the Weber-Suter pairing has been playing at an elite level this year.

I agree. Suter has been the anchor, Weber is too talented to not get back to form though imho.

Weber is currently on a career high point streak scoring in nine straight games, and has 13 points in his last nine games. I don't see how he's out of form at all.

First of all I would believe a Swedish site with information about a Swedish player, but this is definitely a rehash of speculation Nashville can't afford Weber.

That speculation is garbage. It is not like Nashville is right up to the cap or even to the midpoint which is believed to be their internal budget. Weber already makes 4.5 million so even getting 6-7 million a year which is around the area he will get is only 1.5-2.5 million added to budget which the rise in cap would likely be enough to cover that. It is not some impossible monetary situation for Poile to manage.

If anything, the only way Weber is gone is if there is a prospect in the system to match or top him.

It's tough for Nashville to not be able to retain the guy when they have the cap space.

What was the point of the lockout?

Both Weber and mgmt. have said that they will come to an agreement at the end of the season.

Weber likes it in Nashville...good organization and he is more of a private person so he likes the aninomity once he is off the ice.

Here's the math:

IF, the rumored cap increase is 3 million, that means the rev. sharing goes up 3 million. How do we know this? Because the Predators spend to break even and every time the cap goes up they spend more nearly matching the cap.

That means Weber's extension is paid for UNLESS some stupid club decides to give Weber a 4 1st round offer sheet and even THEN he might not sign it. The Preds could pay Weber up to 7.5 million. But I think they will aim for 6.5 m. If they really want Weber long term AND they have to sign him for more than 7.5 M. Steve Sullivan's contract comes off the books at 3.75 m.

Be careful with the European papers "reporting" on North American players playing in the NHL.

Weber commented on his future. December 13,2010.

Quote:
"Itís a place I love. I love it here, I love the guys, thatís not my worry right now," Weber said. "Iím worried about winning hockey games and continuing to focus on that."

We know the Predators met with Weber's agent, Don Meehan, before the season to discuss Weber's future with the team and Nashville's plans for the future. It's unclear where the two sides are in negotiations.

The Predators have maintained that they want to keep their first home grown captain. But until his name is signed on a new con tract, rumors on Weber's future will continue to swirl.

Rumors will swirl from Sweden.

I don't think there is a prospect in any team's system that matches up, let alone top, Shea Weber. I don't think there are any 20 or under players that match up with him. Unless some team is overpaying, Weber is probably not being moved.

Not putting much faith in these rumours, but what would it take from Dallas?
