How good is Ville Leino?

I havent had the opportunity to follow that much Philly's games, so pretty much what i've seen him play is in Finland with Jokerit (in finnish league).

So.. tell me Philly fans what do you think his strenghts and weaknesses are?

Strengths: Great puck control player and playmaker. Good in each zone of the ice.
Weaknesses: Although he is learning to shoot the puck more often, he still passes at times when he is in a position to get a shot off.

The one unknown about Leino that I'm not sure about is how he would play without Briere and Hartnell to compliment his play. That's the key word here; compliment. They all compliment each other's games almost flawlessly and they've all excelled being on the same line. He struggled in Detroit and he even struggled when he came to Philly at first. It took him a little time to find his niche.

Leino is part of the Flyers' most consistent line with Hartnell and Briere. The trio has excelled and truly feed off one another. In the recent past, there was an inconsistency with lines and changed personnel encountered inconsistent results. That hasn't happened on this line. Leino's primary function is as a playmaker and he has helped increase Briere's offensive output.

He also hasn't produced on the PP. Then again, our PP sucks this year.

I'm curious as to how he would fare without Hartnell and Briere.

I'm not. I want that line to stay in tact as long as it is producing. Those three elevate their game when playing together.

Leino is a very good hockey player. Competent in all three zones. Can take a hit like a champ. I think he'd succeed anywhere in our top 9.

Well when Briere was suspended Leino-Carter-Hartnell did well, and the couple of games where even they got shuffled Leino did well with Carter and JVR(I think it was JVR, could have been Powe)

Only real flaw I can see about him is; he can be too patient sometimes.

Other then that great puck protection, vision, passing and is becoming strong on the backcheck.

He can get too cute sometimes, and that causes him to lose the puck. Very strong along the board, especially considering that he is not a big guy.

His play in the offensive zone is good. Defense could use some work, but that's because of the line he is on. Solid enough top 6 forward.

eh? I mean, he gets back up, so i guess he takes a hit pretty well...but thats after hes tossed down easily. he protects the puck well but when someone gets a body on him he goes down like he weighs nothing. needs to shoot more. but is a great passer and has good vision

He pays the price for dangling and has been durable. You think he falls down easy? I think he's a strong skater, especially with the puck.

Strengths: Great playmaker, great puck controller, good defensive winger, very good in-front of the net for a little guy, and phenomenal facial hair.

Weaknesses: Slow, weak shot, and holds puck too long on occasion.

On the second goal against tonight? Not very.

He's pretty damn studly. He better be resigned.

being overly patient in the offensive zone usually isn't a problem but that 1st goal tonight was a completely stupid play. He was deep in the defensive zone, wasn't pressured and tried to make a fancy play through the forward to break out and bang - it's a 2-1 game. I'm sure Laviolette either said something quite stern - but probably didn't have to - just a look was enough.

He has said recently that he has tried to be more responsible defensively this season and it has paid off in his overall game so I can forgive that awful play tonight. Weird that he's so damn slow - aren't there training methods to increase foot speed?
