Zach Parise + NJ 2011 1st

First of all let me throw in a disclaimer...

I do NOT think the Devils would or should trade either of these and I'll admit that I suck at trade proposals so I won't waste anyones time making my own.

I am curious, though, to see what something like this could possibly bring back to the organization. We're talking about a top ten player in the league (arguably) and a potential 1st overall pick.

Like I said, I would prefer to keep both, but if something special came along I'm sure Lou would think about it.

You probably would get more if you trade them separately. I don't really see a team with an urgent need of both Parise and a lottery pick.

Sky high. Parise is on the level not far below Crosby, and theirs not many players above him.

PArise and this years first?

That would get us Duncan Keith or Drew Doughty.

Don't think so. Crosby is well above Parise.

Seriously? I'd think Crosby is no. 1 and Parise should be challenging top 10. That's quite a drop IMHO.

The combination makes no sense. Why would a team simultaneously trade for an elite player in his prime, and another guy who won't be in his prime for 5-6 years?

Are you looking for a single elite player (Keith, Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Stamkos)? Those teams wouldn't do it because they need those players to win now.

Are you looking for a package? The package would have to be huge, I'm not sure any GM would be interested in giving up what it would take, and I doubt it would be a good idea for the Devils either.

Parise + NJs first is such a great package, no GM would even bother because the assets it would take to get that aren't worth giving up.

I love Parise, I would have his babies. But Pittsburgh would never do this. You're talking about a 24 year old who is averaging 97 points per year vs. a 26 year old who is averaging 66 points per year and coming back from knee surgery. There is just no way a draft pick, even a #1 overall can make up the difference (unless there's a Crosby/Ovechkin type talent available, in which case the Devils obviously would never make the trade)

I like the idea of Malkin for Parise, with Parise being a perfect compliment to Crosby and Malkin to Kovy, but not with a top 5 pick.

Maybe Parise plus 2012 2nd for Malkin during the off-season.

The value is nuts.

That could net pretty much anyone in the NHL. Even Crosby and Ovechkin.

Pretty much any single player outside Crosby/Ovechkin could be had for that package. Or, an outstanding package of high-end assets not seen since the Lindros trade.

Outside of generational players, Lou can pretty much name his price.

Not Crosby or Ovechkin. I doubt Crosby will ever get traded.

I don't want Malkin either his cap hit is higher than Zach's will be anyway and I like Zach better because he is homegrown and our future captain.

I think the value's there to get Crosby or Ovechkin. It's just a matter of "will each team do it" - which they won't

Value of Parise & 1st pick? .... more then you'd actually get in a trade.

My point exactly, hes a challenging top 10 player in the league. Im not suggesting he could get Crosby, cause he couldnt, but what im suggesting is theirs pretty much no one in the league except Crosby and *maybe* Ovechkin who would be value for Parise + high 1st.

that package makes zero sense together, if we want to trade zach its to accumulate many prospects and picks for a re-build, if we're trading the 1st overall pick its to get an accomplished D-man for a re-tool. if we keep both we're better off on both fronts so i fail to see the point unless we're getting crosby or ovechkin for that package

Parise + 1st for Malkin is good. PIT might need to throw in a 2nd or 3rd to balance the value a bit more, but I like it.
