Just because there weren't any penalties called doesn't mean that was the right thing to do. Ovie was high sticked in the first or second and the refs missed it. There were a couple of plays towards the end of the game that should have resulted in penalties but the refs had swallowed their whistles.
I just went through all 46 games so far, and the Flyers did not allow a goal in 59 of possible 138 periods, or ~42.75% of them (did not count overtime as a period. Only goals in regulation time count). That number is to me absolutely astonishing when considering that the team hasn't combined that for a shutout yet.
In the other hand, the Flyers have scored in 90 of those 138 periods, or ~65.2% of them.
Zherdev played a good game. He's really fun to watch. So smooth passing and handling the puck.
I thought Zherdev was going to drop 'em with Erskine about midway through the second behind the Washington net. Then he must have thought, "Hey, I'm a Russian goal scoring machine. What am I doing getting physical?" and skated away.
Tell ya one thing ... all the booming shots Mesz takes from the point ... I'm amazed he only has 2 goals so far. AND his shots are GOOD, they very frequently hit the target or make it into a danger zone for a deflection.
