A Malkin-Kovalchuk-Zubrus line would be sick offensively, but watching them play defense would make me break a lot of remotes. Sure they may each score 40+ goals (Zubrus 10-20), but they'll all end up with -20's at the end of the year.
You have to remember who you're trading to. Watching Parise and Crosby on the same line would be like watching porn on ice skates. you're basically guaranteeing that a division rival is going to have the best line in the NHL for the next decade, regardless of who their opposite winger is.
And between Malkin and Kovalchuk, we've got +15M a season tied up in two streaky Russians and still have a massive hole on defense.
I am higher on Johnson this season than Doughty FYI, but for your purposes lets analyze.
You would trade Parise for Doughty, but you would also trade the 1st overall pick for Schenn? Thats nuts

If we kept Parise, we would have Parise and most likely Larsson. Doughty is having a bad year and it is obvious to me that you are just going off of stats.
This isn't just a Parise for Doughty trade, this is also including the 1st overall pick.
Parise + 1st overall is far far far superior to Doughty+ Schenn......
Your logic of this proposal is based on Drew Doughty having a "off year"? Drew Doughty is worth more then Parise now, even in his off year, and in the future. The guy is already "the next big thing" in regads to blueliners, he was one of the best players on Canada's gold medal game and he just turned 21 last month.
Parise is good, very good... but people seem to think he's ****ing Mario Gretzky or something. For the Schenn Vs 1st overall pick debate, you do know that Brayden Schenn was a 5th overall pick right and you do know that he's a center right, something this team needs.
If you wouldn't do Schenn + Doughty Vs Parise and 1st overall... you are smoking crack. Doughty would bring a element to this team that Parise can't even if he tried and adding a strong centerman like Schenn to complement Zajac, Josefson and Henrique would be awesome.

I love Parise, I would have his babies. But Pittsburgh would never do this. You're talking about a 24 year old who is averaging 97 points per year vs. a 26 year old who is averaging 66 points per year and coming back from knee surgery. There is just no way a draft pick, even a #1 overall can make up the difference (unless there's a Crosby/Ovechkin type talent available, in which case the Devils obviously would never make the trade)
While the Devils may have to add slightly. I do not believe a deal around Malkin and Parise/First is completely out there. Parise's numbers would skyrocket being on Crosby's line and Staal's would improve on the second line. That first could be used to draft another winger for Staal or further bolster the defense. There is definitely potential to this trade.

I don't know.. it's been a couple of years since Malkin lived up to that contract - the Pens would have a top flight winger, a top flight prospect and enough room left over to go out and sign a pretty damn good (not Jordan Staal good, but still) third line center.
Where would B.Schenn go in this draft? I would have to think that his value is pretty close to the #1 pick. I know he's older, but he looks like a keeper to me. Granted, this could be the ever famous "he performed well at the WJC" bias. Which is why I'm asking.
Parise, on his own, and even with the injury would command a tremendous return (Burke would offer the farm ala Mike Ditka/Ricky Williams to get him). Add in a high 1st round pick and you could have your pick of most assets in the NHL not named Crosby, Ovechkin, and Stamkos.
I do NOT think the Devils would or should trade either of these and I'll admit that I suck at trade proposals so I won't waste anyones time making my own.
I am curious, though, to see what something like this could possibly bring back to the organization. We're talking about a top ten player in the league (arguably) and a potential 1st overall pick.
Like I said, I would prefer to keep both, but if something special came along I'm sure Lou would think about it.

"Potential" first overall pick...Quite a difference. Especially in a "potentially" weak draft class.
A weak draft after the top-10. I wouldn't trade Parise for Gaborik straight up and a rookie DFD doesn't make up the difference in value.
Callahan holds more value to the Rangers then he does New Jersey. Callahan and a 2nd is not enough to trade away Parise and a top-5 pick.
Callahan is a great heart and soul player but he isn't worth the chance to draft a potential franchise player. At the end of the day Callahan is a 2nd/3rd line winger.
You have to figure Parise is worth 4 1st rounders if a GM wants him that badly. In this case by taking Rolston from us we'd let you substitute one of the 1st rounders for a 2nd.

I am never certain if Canucks fans are serious when they compare Parise to Kesler.
Kesler is not in the same league as Parise, in my view. Consistency is the key element that differentiates between stars and above-average NHLers. First let Kesler put up 3-4 consecutive 80pt seasons. Then, and only then, would he be of similar value to Zach Parise.
