Kaberle to NYR

I can almost guarantee Sather is kicking the tires on a Kaberle deal. Burke and Sather are buddies and have a history( Antropov for 2nd for example)

What would the Leafs expect back for Kaberle?

I imagine a 2nd rounder would be a starting point. I don't think the Rangers would move top young prospecs for a rental but they may add Gilroy who is playing well of late and a extra F like Christensen who is currently injured but has one more year at 1.1 million

For a UFA like Kaberle I would say a 2nd, Gilroy, Christensen would be plenty and Leafs may even have to add something. I am sure others will think I am nuts and want more , lol

thoughts?

Sure a 2nd is a starting point, but i don't think Burke has any interest in acquiring Christensen at this point, we have enough players with his skill level.

Rejected from a Leafs standpoint.

Just because he is an upcoming UFA, doesn't mean we are going to deal him for players that we just don't need.

so what would it take?

I can see leaf Fans asking for a 2nd + Grachev but I feel that's overpayment for a UFA

I'd do it as a Rangers fan if Kaberle fills two roles for us -

1 - He is in fact the major piece we need (and frankly, a PPQB is up there on our list)

2 - He re-signs on the cheaper end to serve as a mentor for MDZ.

you don't trade a 20 yr old that is a key part of the future for a UFA so no it's not that simple

In the end Leaf fans over value Kaberle. UFA rentals do not hold that much value. He will get back a good pick and a descent prospect not much more than that

as for the Rangers they could use him on the PP but he would not be resigned next yr given the cap

How has Grachev been progressing? I watched him quite a bit when he was playing in Brampton with Hodgson etc.. As a Leafs fan the Grachev + 2nd deal sounds intriguing but at the end of the day Kaberle has said over and over he wants to stay in Toronto so im assuming thats what is going to happen.

Where does Kaberle exactly fit? And does he put us over the top? I don't think so. . . .

I'd rather see us retain our assets (not that you included any in this proposal, other than the 2nd rounder which will be around pick #20'ish).

No to Kaberle.

If the Rangers can be guaranteed that Kaberle would sign as a UFA with the Rangers this is not a bad deal. Kaberle is one of the handfull of really good NHL defenseman. He has some good years left. I know nothing is guaranteed that Kaberle would sign.

Losing MDZ would hurt, but the Rangers are stacked with defenseman in the system. Also, Gordie Clark can go out and draft another gem of a defenseman in the draft next year.

I doubt Kaberle will waive his NTC, but if he does I see Burke holding out for a 1st round pick and decent prospect

If NYR wants one of the best PMD's in the game the conversation starts with Kreider.

What did Boyle get?
What did Campbell get?

That's your starting point. You're not getting him for nothing.
I'll make it easy though: for your 2011 1st straight up.

For a UFA to be, it doesn't.

Same to you.

Top NHL'ers like Kaberle hold a lot of value, enough to return a good prospect that has not played a NHL game yet. That's the price, not some maybe picks and mid prospects.

Again, not when he can walk away at the end of the season.

No to Kaberle.
Kaberle>eminger, which isn't a knock on eminger he's played well
Kaberle>> gilroy, offensively and defensively
Kaberle>>>>mcdonagh, at this point in his career

Our current defense isn't going to be a reason for a deal not to be done, the fact that Burke will want a first or a top prospect.
