I'd do something like Boyle (doubted) and a conditional third with a second if he resigns with NYR.
Leafs need a big body or a centermen capable of being in a top six role. Christensen hasn't been playing all that amazing, but Rangers and Leafs could make a deal just Rangers would need to offer a big body for the Leafs or a good center
And the Leafs probably won't want picks in this years draft, just sayin. The draft class isn't that deep and he has explicitly said he wants guys for the right now which means a prospect close to the NHL or an NHL ready guy
Top NHL'ers like Kaberle hold a lot of value, enough to return a good prospect that has not played a NHL game yet. That's the price, not some maybe picks and mid prospects.
Hah yea if he was signed through 2013 NEWSFLASH he's an ufa at seasons end and in the NHL that very much diminishes his value significantly. But you keep dreaming and believing yourself while everyone on here bashes you
Kaberle's price may be a 1st rounder, but it will not be coming from the Rangers. Its 20 games + the playoffs for a player who has already stated he wants to stay in Toronto and will most likely go back.
If Kaberle is traded as purely a UFA, then sure NYR are good trade partners. However, I think Kaberle might want a contract extension if he agrees to waive.
That being said.. is Artem Anisimov or Evgeny Grachev available?
I think most leafs fans would do a straight up trade for Anisimov, and possibly a Grachev plus conditional draft choices (1st if Kaberle resigns, 5th if NYR go deep into playoffs, etc). Kaberle is a premier PMD and even as a rental has significant worth. I think the days are over for him getting a huge return, but a young prospect with upside is not out of the question.

That may be tricky as the Rangers have a fair amount of their RFAs to sign this sumemer

Sound perfect to me. I would think the Ranger could even through in another pick or prospect.

Grachev - maybe if he's signed to an extension.
Anisimov goes nowhere unless you are talking Kessel in return (obviously with ++ on the Rangers side to get Kessel).

Bash all you want, if Kaberle does ever agree to waive he will re-sign with that team, making him very valuable.
Chances are he remains a Leaf until he retires, which I have no problem with. In my opinion NYR would be better off moving one or two players/prospects for a younger PMD.

He's said he's going to resign wherever he goes? That'd be pretty foolish not to test the market come July.
And we have del zotto we don't need a younger pmd.

Del Zotto isn't even in NYC right now. So I can't see how that renders Kaberle unnecessary. TK is the right guy (at least right type of guy) to target. Just at the right price. He fills two three very big holes the Rangers have: 1) A vet dman, 2) A puck moving Dman, 3) Help on the PP.

Kaberle wants to stay in Toronto, he has no intention of going anywhere else/testing free agency. Again if he ever agrees to waive it will be to a team he wants to play with for longer then a couple of months otherwise he won't waive at all.
you don't trade a 20 yr old that is a key part of the future for a UFA so no it's not that simple
In the end Leaf fans over value Kaberle. UFA rentals do not hold that much value. He will get back a good pick and a descent prospect not much more than that
as for the Rangers they could use him on the PP but he would not be resigned next yr given the cap
Then we'll just keep him. He fills a need and seems willing to resign here.
It would make sense in an ideal world, it just won't happen.
How is it so far-fetched? St Louis did it with Weight and Tkachuk a couple of times. Instead of just throwing out unsubstantiated absolutes, how about offering some actual reasoning?
I would deal a 2nd + Grachev, and maybe throw in someone like Horak for good measure.
Kreider? Well someone was watching the WJC eh? Rangers are not going to trade the kid. Its slightly more likely they deal MDZ but i'd be surprised about that as well.
Kaberle is soft as hell. But he is still a top 15, at least top 15 PP QB and puck moving dman. Lets not sell him short here.
OK. I'll ask you then. Why wouldn't Burke trade him and then sign him 7/1?
Well, Burke prides himself on doing the honorable thing and maintaining good relationships with other GMs. Doesn't seem like something he would do.
Also, whoever picks him up will have time to negotiate a potential contract. Who's to say Kaberle won't enjoy NY and want to stay there? Too risky for one of our more important players.
