Watch out, he might punch one of the other stars from the bench

Yup, in place of Iginla whose grandmother is sick.

They probably figured he'd stop if they were nice to him.

If it is indeed true, congrats to him. Shouldn't have come down to injuries in the first place, but he definitely deserves to be there.

i read somewhere yesterday that Crosby may not be participating in the allstar game not because of the concussion but because he is protesting the NHL so that they do something about head shots - has anyone else seen this article?

I am just glad that Briere is replacing Iginla and not Crosby lol

Translation (through website):

Quote:
The attacker Daniel Brière of the Philadelphia Flyers will replace Jarome Iginla for the Calgary Flames in the match of the stars. Iginla has requested not to participate in the event presented in Caroline the end of January for family reasons. This season, briere has harvested 24 goals and 17 aid (41 points) in 43 parties compared to 19 goals and 23 aid (42 points) for Iginla in 46 games.

Crosby denied a printed report that he might skip the all-star game to protest the lack of punishment.

"That's not even close," Crosby said. "I'll be there if I can be there and I still haven't ruled out being there. Hopefully in the next few days, things get better. There's a slight chance I can still be back for that."
As much as he deserves to be in, he's playing it right. There's no point in playing if you're not healthy, and head shots/concussions are funny things.

Gets suspended -> Left of the all-star game.
Get fined too -> Hey, come on in!

Hilarious. I think he's going to have a great ol' time and this at least corrects the stupidity of him being left off the roster in the first place.

It's amazing to think that it took health concerns for Grandma Iginla to actually get Briere in, whom should have been in in the first place.

Also already updated on the NHL ASG roster page. Apparently the Flames do not have a player in the all-star weekend at all. Kinda surprised they didn't pick a replacement from the team. Then again, it's not like there is anybody you could pick from that team and justify him being in the ASG.

Islanders and Sabres got snubbed, as did Phoenix. And with a concussion to Hemsky the Oilers may not have one either.

My thoughts exactly. I'm glad Briere, like most hockey players, is a classy guy. He wanted to go, but had he been on the fence he could've said "Well I found out I wasn't an All-Star and I made plans with my family" or something of the like. Good for Danny, unfortunate for Iggy.

The Islanders, Sabres, Coyotes, and Oilers all have rookies in the SuperSkills competition. The Flames do not.

Corey Perry is one of the biggest dirtbags in the league and hes in the AS game. Good for Briere. Hope he has a great game and has some fun. would love it if hes opposite of Price and he beats him for the GWG.

Each team had a rep in some capacity.

Without Iggy, the Flames have no one, including the rookie portion of the weekend.

He should say he cannot make it, prior obligations and his kid needs new shoes, but due to out of pocket expenses for fines he cannot afford a sitter for the kids.

Seriously. Briere should say FU to Bettman/Campbell and not go.

This may sound stupid but if he replaces iggy does that mean he is playing on the east or west
