This proposal is much closer then Pens fans are making it out to be.

This proposal makes nothing about the Penguins better while making many areas worse and is thus much more ridiculous than Hawks fans realize.

Than.

And no it is not. Not trying to be a Richard, but there is now way in hell Shero would even entertain this notion. We are set on the blueline.

Well you think that because you would do this trade in a second... We wouldn't!!! We have Centers and Defense and need wingers who are good now. Trade just doesn't fit Penguins. To be honest I don't think the Pens need to make a trade and if they do it won't be 2 core players signed LONG TERM!!!

How bout close in value....but it would help the blackhawks and potentially hurt the penguins.....If that makes any sense

Again Sharp or Kane and Seabrook for Orpik and Staal is close.

Except making them better defensively. Sure, that's not an area of weakness, but to simply dismiss that Seabrook improves upon what Orpik brings is just flat out incorrect.

Value wise it's not bad but it does nothing to help the Pens.

The Hawks get the best player in the deal.

The Pens trade two core players locked up long term without getting a prominent winger.

The Pens receive a defenseman they don't need and trade their most physical defenseman and a top locker room leader.

It's a stretch to say replacing Orpik with Seabrook would make the Pens better defensively. Taking Orpik out of the equation on the Pens defense leaves a physical void that Seabrook doesn't replace. The Pens have guys the likes of Martin and Letang that can do what Seabrook does and then some.

Except Seabrook is a physical defenseman that plays a solid offensive game.

The Pens don't need anymore d-men that can play offense. They have Letang, Goligoski, and Martin.

Orpik and Michalek are their true defensive d-men. One of the main reasons why their PK is #1 in the NHL.

They also have Orpik locked up for years at a solid rate. I'm sure Seabrook will get $5m+ from someone.

Whatever Seabrook may have over Orpik isn't worth trading Staal for Bolland.

Seabrook adds an offensive dimension that Orpik doesn't possess, but I don't agree that he's an improvement over Orpik defensively or physically. At best, Seabrook is Orpik with an offensive touch. But that's not enough of an "upgrade" to offset the Staal and Bolland part of the deal.

Yeah...he also isn't signed past this season whereas Orpik has another 3 years left at a very reasonable cap hit.

If we're talking just for this year and not beyond. I still wouldn't make this deal because the difference between Seabrook and Orpik isn't nearly enough to cover the difference between Staal and Bolland.

Just because Seabrook is awesome, doesn't mean he has full value to the Pens. His impending RFA status and the Pens depth on defence (Martin, Michalek, Letang, Goligoski) mean that he isn't a need but a luxury.

We need top 6, scoring wingers...if you have good ones that are available, then we can talk about moving Staal. Otherwise, move along.

Except that it doesn't, because we're also trading a Selke finalist.

It's a non-starter on every level.

It's laughable because it doesn't make any sense from one team's POV. What reasoning would the Pens have for making this trade even if the value was right? Seriously, one reason.

I'd do

Staal
Orpik

for

Kane
Scott

Then I'd trade Gogo for an Orpik like d-man and move up Desperes.
