My thoughts exactly. I'm glad Briere, like most hockey players, is a classy guy. He wanted to go, but had he been on the fence he could've said "Well I found out I wasn't an All-Star and I made plans with my family" or something of the like. Good for Danny, unfortunate for Iggy.

Seriously. Briere should say FU to Bettman/Campbell and not go.
From what I read and also heard/saw in a clip, Briere's three boys were disappointed he was left off and will be elated to now be able to attend the game to see him and his housemate Giroux play... Danny said that they are at an age where the ASG means a lot... He will be backing out of a kid's tourney in Florida so the kids can go with him. (all paraphrased)
To me it sounds as if Danny really had no real choice but to accept... He said he had to explain to the boys why he was not going; how could he now go back to them and explain why he turned down the opportunity to participate? His hand were tied.
And to be honest, spitting in the League's face would do him nothing but harm going forward... I get the feeling they are a vindictive bunch... Can't hurt the Flyers as a team with a spite statement, IMO.
and word on the street is Malkin has a lower body injury and won't be playing in thursday game against Jersey.
Maybe we can work Leino in there as well
I may be crazy but I like the old days of sports All Star games where the Coaches of both the Champions and the runner ups -- or, Conference Champions -- are the coaches of the ASG... and the their staffs assist them. This is a nod to them for what they accomplished. They also got a major say in selecting the team outside of the fan appointed spots... I believe MLB still holds to this as Charley selected his guy over others, IIRC.
Here Lavy had to win his spot THIS season... and still is only a co-coach... while the SC Champs have their man handed a spot.
That said, the All Star Games are crap and only the MLB one has any meaning or entertainment value... all the others are for kids and players contract bonuses and their bragging rights... so I suppose, who really gives a ****?
Yea, they are cool... but the game itself cannot be played as it should with real checking and hits; therefore it sucks.
I am not a big fan of the ASG because it is without drama or meaning, but it's still fun to watch.
The skills comp is great to see the players just relaxing, without their lids, showing off a bit, and the game is cool because you can tell the guys are just having fun and get to mess around more. Nothin' wrong with that, even if they can be kind of boring if it's all one-sided.
