I'd say he's one of the best defensive forwards in the AHL and on the PK he's a beast.

He just recently got moved back to center. He was mostly on a line with Russell and Maxwell but when DD got called up they moved him to center. Last night he was paired with Hunter Bishop and JT Wyman.

I think he'd look good on a checking line with Pyatt and Moen, hopefully he impresses as it'd be nice to have someone down the middle with size.

Well that's good because with Gionta, Desharnais, Darche, Moen, Eller and Pacioretty (unfortunately he is hurt) we already are painfull for others goalies right now.

Makes perfect sense. Sound defensively, big center, was praised as one of the better players on the Dogs, will replace Halpern adequately.
I believe him, Pyatt and Moen could be a good defensive line.

This is a very logical choice. He seems like he can move into an NHL lineup and not miss a beat. Not the most offensive player, but he can play rock solid defense. He had a good preseason, made some nice outlet passes and played really well. This is a good choice.

I like this move a lot if Halpern is out, he seems to be very NHL ready and does a little of everything, plus brings size.

No Franzen, but Engvist does seem to score most of his goals around the net, which is a nice change from the Habs' usual perimeter players. His style of play has been compared to Sundin's before and although a bit far stretched, I can see where the comparisons are drawn from..

He hasn't been lighting it up in Hamilton and has a lot of work to do to become more dominant, but he plays a simple (safe) and effective game and shows some flashes of his potential here and there.. kind of like Lars Eller.

Didn't expect Engqvist to get called up at all. I'm guessing we'll be seeing more callups tomorrow?

Cool thanks for that. I remember liking him in training camp because of his quick decision-making with the puck, and how solid he looked his skates. I think he'll be a useful injury replacement for the habs.

crap...I thought Halpern was gonna make it. In a crisis like this, it's guys like him who we need to hold down the fort defensively.

I'm happy with the Enqvist callup though.

I've liked Engqvist since we signed him, I think he's going to be a part of the team's future, though in the bottom-6. He's big and he plays a good game. Just to be vain I'm going to do somethign I've never done before and I'm going to quote myself from before the season started. The post is from a thread where we were ranking the top-10 habs prospects.

How were his faceoff skills in the AHL? He had good numbers in the SEL.

Well after some in-depth googling. The AHL does not track face-off stats.

Baseball tracks full stats to low A ball!!!, jeeze and they wonder why hockey has issues growing in the USA. Guess our only info on him in the circle will be from eyeball guys in Hamilton.

Points aren't everything. He is defensively responsible, good on the draw and a big body. Worth a look if nothing else.

As stated above, injuries DO suck but the positive is that we get to see alot of the younger players. Really cool for Andreas!
He was among the best players in the SEL last spring and beat out some NHL:ers for Team Sweden at the WC last spring. I see no reason why he shouldnt be able to make the jump to NHL.

Kör hårt Andreas!!

I pulled that back few posts down after I found out Halpern was injured & he's in to cover him.

who would win in a shoving contest? The Kardashian sisters or Eller/Engqvist ? Our legendary players must be rolling in their graves.

So if this guy is replacing Halpern, and Pouliot is back in the line up to replace MaxPac or Cammy, there is still one spot to fill... Weber at forward and Picard back on D ?

Our team has a real American core and I wouldn't mind to see that core include more Fins and Swedes. They play a good style of hockey that's proven to be successful in the NHL.

Me too.

Swedes are very good defensively and Finns are usually skilled and responsible players who embrace the physical game.

I don't get what you are saying..Scandinavians are a disgrace to the franchise? Have you ever even seen Engqvist play?
