If the Rangers open next season in Europe, as multiple reports this weekend indicated they have been invited to do by the NHL, the Daily News has learned that the Blueshirts would play at least one game in Sweden, which of course is All-Star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist's home country. Zuccarello, the Rangers' Norwegian winger, was named MVP of the Swedish Elite League by his fellow players last season while playing for Modo. . . .
NYR-Caps in Moscow would be pretty awesome.
Though people don't realize it but the Rangers probably have the heaviest Ruskie fanbase of any team when you factor in the huge Russian population in Brooklyn, as well as the fact that most Russians that came to the country in the 90s/00s settled primarily in the NY metro area.
and then you have the Caps, which are probably the most pro-Russian NHL team with OV,Semin, Varly as well as epic Russian prospects Kuznetsov,Orlov.
and obviously if we play in Moscow they'll have us playing some KHL team as an exhibition. and as someone who follows Russian hockey extensively, I'd LOVE to see us play a top-end KHL team to see how that league compares (NYR vs Salavat Yulaev w/ Radulov). Also another good match-up would be to play against AAs KHL team, Lokomotiv, a little homecoming for the guy.
Why do we need to bring NHL to them? What exactly does it do for NHL and us ? I am not in favor of Premiere Games in Europe. If anything I'd rather see them go somewhere in US where people still think that hockey is a drank Canadian farmers entertainment.
hahaha, lol yes! just go watch Chelsea play football....there is at least 25.000 of them. Any more people than that living in Goteborg? London has more people than all of Sweden.

One game in Norway, and one in Sweden would be epic!
A few preseasons game around Europe then open the season with a pair of games in Sweden's Scandinavium would be pretty cool IMO. Large arena and right in between Oslo and Stockholm to draw crowds for MZA, Henke and anyone else.

Yea, about 1 million in the greater Gothenburg area.

Reports out of Russia - #KHL's Vityaz (remember those goons?) claims that they are negotiating w/ #NYR to play a preseason game.
Wishful thinking by Vityaz. There is no way A. the Rangers would risk their roster against the KHL's goon squad in the arena in which Cherepanov died or B. the KHL would want Vityaz to act as a poster child for the league.
Just another publicity stunt by a team that survives on publicity stunts.

True. My father is living proof.
I assume the Red Wings had a lot of Russian fans during the Russian Five era too.
I would LOVE for the Rangers to play Vityaz. Suit up Boogaard, Prust, Newbury, Soryal, Weise and Avery and bring a try-out guy like McGratton and let them go off. Welcome them to an actual tough NHL team.
Chesnokov is reporting today via twitter that a representative from the Rangers is having a meeting with Vityaz tommorrow to discuss the rangers playing a preseason game there.
I hadn't read this thread til now. Just heard about the building not being available til mid-october last night. I really hope this is acurate as I would LOVE to not have to pay for 3 pre-season games this year.
If they play 2 in Europe, hopefully their home game is against some team like Atlanta or Florida as it is tough to get someone to take those games at MSG.
I could see them doing a home and home with the Caps. One in Stockholm (Rangers home game) and one in Moscow (Caps home game).

If we did, youd have to think Boogaard, Prust, Newbury, and any other goon we have signed to a pro contract would be geared up and ready to play
Please Gothenburg for once, if played in Sweden it would easily make the most sense. You'd have a huge fan base of Frölunda fans who would come to watch Henrik, and Oslo with all their Zuccarello fans is only 3 hours away with good road, train, and flight connections.
