By trading for him, or signing him when he's a UFA in about ~8 years.

If you want to trade for him, something around Johnson and Neal makes sense, although I don't see the point for either team, considering they'd be filling a need by creating another hole.

I'd much rather the Stars address their defensive needs via free agency (and I mean it this time, Joe ), rather than picking apart their wealth of forwards for an upgrade on the blueline.

I mean, why do that when you can have both?

I doubt the Stars trade him for anything less than this though.

I doubt the Stars trade him for that, too. I would throw more at the Stars, too, but at some point the quantity just doesn't equal the quality. Moller/Toffoli, Hickey/Voinov, Teubert/Forbort, and LA's first for an actual first line winger for Kopitar would be worth it from the Kings, with maybe another piece coming from Dallas. But I just don't see it. Now that Johnson negotiated a long term contract by himself, I don't see a defensive piece (unless you want Matt Greene - Doughty is out of the question) moving for Neal.

JJ for Neal makes some sense, Benn could take Neal's place on the 1st line, and you've still got Ribs, Morrow and Lags on the 2nd line. However, I think the Kings need more of a skilled LW than another PF/grinder type winger, they've already got plenty of "dirtywork" wingers (Brown, Smyth, Simmonds, etc.).

Neal isn't a grinder type. Hes a good puckhandler with a snipers shot.

Not by much, at least not yet.

Throw a couple more +'s in there.

Neal is the same age as Omark, yet has been in the NHL for 2 and a half seasons and is aiming for his 3rd straight 20 goal season.

Try MPS+.

I did say that Dallas would probably send something back, maybe a second or third round pick, but honestly yes. Especially if he can be a fixture on the first line, without having to really trade anyone from the team? I would do that all day. The Kings have enough depth in their system on defense to not have losing the two defenseman ruin their minor league franchise. Kings have Voinov, Hickey, Muzzin, Deslaurier, Teubert, and Forbert, and these are only the higher profile players. Not to mention Martinez and Drewiske already with the big crew. Doughty, Johnson, Scuderi, and Mitchell are a pretty solid top four, and as far as puck movers go, where do guys like Hickey and Voinov fit in with Jack and Drew there?

I don't know if the Kings would make the deal, but I would.

Neal is really underrated. Dallas would be stupid to let him go for anything, really. From the Avs, I'd offer Chris Stewart, if they weren't already so similar.

This Dallas-Ontario connection is working in Neal's favor. When you train in the off season with the GMs best buddy and newest member of the coaching/training staff (Roberts) then lead the team in goals...you probably aren't going to be dealt. Then again, if there was an odd man out in 2 years in this roster, I could see it being Neal(assuming a subpar 2011-12 though in fairness to him he's never given a Stars fan any reason to believe he's going to mail in a subpar season considering his production to date). Don't know why, just a lot of leadership and skill up front in Dallas to the point someone might eventually become expendable in favor of a replenished prospect pool and some savings, and I just don't see it being Benn, Eriksson, Richards or Morrow in the next 5 years.
