Will Sidney Crosby leave Pens for Canadiens in 2013
Will Sidney Crosby leave Pens for Canadiens in 2013
Sidney Crosby has often stated that his favorite team growing up was the Montreal Canadiens. By 2013, the salary cap will approx. be $65 million (with the maximum allowable amount for one player at 20%) if revenues grow at the same pace as the last couple years and assuming the next collective bargaining agreement gives players the same percentage of total revenue. Given this, Crosby will be able to obtain a contract that will pay him $12+ million per season.
Since Crosby has achieved the goal of bringing the Stanley Cup to Pittsburgh, will he set his sights on a new destination like Montreal when he becomes a free agent in 2013. He would play for his favorite childhood team and be in a larger market which would allow him to make more money.
I personally believe that if Crosby ever leaves Pittsburgh, it's because he'll have been traded. And I doubt that will happen either. Just seems like the kind of guy who will spend his whole career there, but you never know.
If anything, it might be more likely to see Crosby finish off his career with the Habs or something.
So just because Crosby was a fan of the Canadiens growing up he will automatically sign with them when he becomes a UFA? Honestly he won't ever make to becoming a UFA because the Penguins will re-sign him long before that, plus why give Montreal fans the hope that just because he was a fan of their's that he will go there. Back in July 2007 a lot of Montreal fans assumed Daniel Briere would sign there because he was French Canadien and we know that never happened, so no wonder it's easy to laugh at some of the Canadiens fans when it comes to them and free agent players.
he'll be a penguin for life. even if the pens start to fade in a decade i'm sure he would stay through a re-build so he can retire a penguin. also, one other thing, its been beaten to death but sid the kid, is really no longer a kid. he may still like the habs but i am 99% sure that his favourite team changed to pittsburgh back in the summer of 05. unless something changes between 2013 and now, he's been treated with nothing but respect in pittsburgh, he knows that the penguins are his team and he knows that pittsburgh is the best place to be for his career moving forward.
Crosby has actually talked about this before and said something about how they used to be his favorite team, but he has no interest in leaving the Pens.
The Penguins have a total of 18,087 seats at the Consol Energy Center, because Corsby wears #87. Now that may not seem like a big deal but to have that specifc number of seats shows how important Crosby has been to them and why he will be a Penguin for life.
Crosby will sign a 10 year $87 million dollar deal with the Pens when his current deal is up.
The Pens already dedicated 18,087 as the number of seats in the new arena to him. Maybe they'll give him 87 Range Rovers, 87 new Playstation games, or any other assortment of 87 he wants.
