All's well in Iggyville?

Quote:
For family reasons, Iginla may not participate in All Star. Hemsky's concussion makes him longshot. Briere likely to get the call.
Tweeted by Dreger a few minutes ago. Apologies for prying into a guy's personal life, but does anyone know what's up?

I hope it's something pleasant and that all is well.

Sounds like Briere is in and Iggy is out at ASG. Should be confirmation soon.
Tweeted just now by Dreger. Sad. I was hoping against hope for a great game from Iginla to get him pumped for the home stretch.

Maybe additional info will come with the confirmation.

This is sad news. His grandparents were a huge part of his upbringing.
Thoughts and prayers to his family.

"It is always an honor to be a part of the NHL All Star Game but unfortunately I have to decline this year," said Iginla. "I just lost my grandfather in the spring and I have learned that my grandmother is not doing very well. With the way the season goes I don't get too many opportunities to see her, and as much as I was looking forward to being in North Carolina for the All Star Game, I just know that my mind will be elsewhere."

"My grandparents were second parents during my childhood and have been major influences on my life," continued Iginla. "I have been blessed to have them. And so after talking it over with my family I thought it best that I use the break to spend some time with her while I am still able to do so. Thank you."

I move for a complete and total pardon for ditching the all-star game. (ie. Don't even feel guilty; Family is much more important)

Best of luck to Iggy and his Grandmother and my thoughts and prayers go to her recovery; so that he'll be taking her out bowling and dining (or whatever it is she likes to do) during the summer.

the NHL will not punish someone for not competing due to an illness in the family, the NHLs issue came with guys like Lidstrom skipping the game because they simply didn't want to play

The pardon was a joke based on the guys who have ditched; obviously the NHL won't take issue with this.

sorry, humor doesn't always come across in text; especially when you've been awake all night

Don't worry, I don't think it was funny at all and I slept soundly all night. Even making a ribbing joke at the League, in this case it's also about a player who has a sick family member... not cool.

Good of Iggy to skip the game to spend time with family.
Shows great character.

Class act and I wish all the best to his family.

This was a very classy press release, giving voyeur fans enough information to satisfy our inevitable curiosity about a star player's personal life without disclosing too many details about a private family member's health condition.

Great role modeling by Iggy here. It's things like this that makes us at least a little split about the thought of Jarome Iginla and his personality leaving the Flames regardless of what the team's record and playoff prospects are.

Looking forward to the Allstar game. For the first time in their life, one of those players will be picked last for hockey. Gonna guess Burns or Hemsky.

defensemen all have to be picked by a certain time, so it has to be a forward... and it looks like Hemsky's concussion will have him miss the All-Star game
