Jarome Iginla grew up a big Oilers fan.

He's going to sign in Edmonton.

... any day now.

... any time

Don't be so sure.

"Dec. 2020 Pittsburgh-
Owner Mario Lemieux unveiled the Penguins' new jersey that will be showcased in this year's Winter Classic. 'I figure, we've been in 8 of these things now, so **** it, this jersey is red.' Asked if there was any historical significance to the jersey, Lemieux replied 'Well, historically, the fans have bought the other 7 jerseys we've used for Winter Classics.'"

Remember, his boyfriend grew up in Pittsburgh. It's doubtful he leaves.

C'mon now, it is obvious what will happen.

Crosby will stay in Pittsburgh, marry Mario's daughter, and raise an army of super players.

The Pens will then tank and draft all of them on their way to winning 20 cups in a row.

Well if this is true it means great things for the leafs as we will have no problems signing all those superstars who were fans when they were younger.

Stamkos here we come!

Back in July 2007 a lot of Montreal fans assumed Daniel Briere would sign there because he was French Canadien and we know that never happened, so no wonder it's easy to laugh at some of the Canadiens fans when it comes to them and free agent players.
He's going to the Leafs when he becomes a UFA, just like Colby Armstrong...superstars stick together...everyone knows it's the Leafs organization that nabs everyone on July 1st every year....Leaf fans... ( see what generalizing all fans together looks like )

Don't you think it's a little early to start talking about this? Just because he was a fan of a team does not mean he is going to not sign a contract with the Pens to go play for the Habs. Pitts will lock him up probably before the last season of his contract starts even if that means they have to trade one of Malkin or Staal. Only way he leaves is if he does not want to sign (why wouldn't he, the team is always competitive) in which the Pens will get a kings ransom in return.

Maybe if he hadn't been booed every time he touched the puck at the Bell Centre, the "Crosby sucks" chants probably won't help either

Actually it doesn't answer the question, we all know the Pens will offer him the max or whatever he wants and so will the 29 other teams, question is does Sidney leave after the 2013 season. I doubt he leaves but I guess we will know more next year as he will be allowed to sign an extension

Uhhhh.. Vancouver already called dibs for when he's washed up. Montreal can't really compete with us there, we have a thing for washed up all-stars in the twilight of their careers.

Actually Crosby's dating someone from his home town, my moms client teaches kickboxing at the gym he works out at. His gf comes and reads and waits for him then they usually get into his land rover and head off, surprisingly shes not as hot as one would expect or so im told.

In reality though there's a lot of people in this thread who are laughing at habs fans unjustly. Most are saying the same ****, is it possible, yes. Is it likely, no.

In reality I only see one way that a scenario like that plays out, Crosby will be 35+, still putting up say .9-1ppg, but the team around him is falling apart. J. Staal is starting to fade out and is a third line center, Fleury has lost his touch if he's still around at all and Malkin was traded for a long term winger for crosby. The team is preparing to rebuild itself much in the same way the Flames are doing this year or the Stars last year. They will clearly only trade him to a contender at that point and the only way montreal gets him is if there competitive. Or in a similar way to Modano, Crosbys about 40 and can still contribute as some depth and the Habs give him a contract to come back and play for his boyhood team.

Honestly thats the only way I see it, but 2013? jesus no

Yes he will, because his Dad was in their system, and when he does it will be for an even bigger discount than he took in Pittsburgh, which as everybody knows at that time was 500k below max.

Next year is only 2011/12 so there's still another season before the one he has to decide.

Those 29 other teams will never get the chance at making the offers to contend with Pittsburgh offers, which will really be Crosby demands/requests for an extension. He knows for the most part he can't ask for the max if he truly wants to compete for championships through out his tenure for any team. Pittsburgh will except any that he does put in front of them, even if it was maxed out.

The owners group and management would really have to mess things up for him to want to leave and not agree to an extension. Would he leave just because he was a fan of Montreal growing up? I doubt it, short term gain for a longterm headache, no privacy, pressure to bring the Habs a championship, did I say privacy yet?

The real question should be will Staal be resigned or want to resign, since his contract is up at the same time? Malkin's is up the following year.

Crosby's is pretty much a lock, but someone probably will be available by 2014/15 season.(Staal/Malkin)

Alex Ovechkin was a huge Pittsburgh and Lemieux fan growing up. So if we lose Crosby to Montreal, we'll just add Ovechkin to replace him

Given this, Crosby will be able to obtain a contract that will pay him $12+ million per season.

Since Crosby has achieved the goal of bringing the Stanley Cup to Pittsburgh, will he set his sights on a new destination like Montreal when he becomes a free agent in 2013. He would play for his favorite childhood team and be in a larger market which would allow him to make more money.

We've heard this in Pittsburgh before. You see, Mario Lemieux's favorite team was the Canadiens too. We see how that turned out.
