Rangers Prospect Poll: #17

Dale Weise finally made it onto the list. Now let's have him go and prove his critics wrong about his low ceiling.

The vote to add a new name to the vote was:

1. C Chad Kolarik: 9
2. LW Jason Wilson: 4
3. G Scott Stajcer: 4
4. LW Randy McNaught: 1
5. LW Justin Soryal: 1
6. D Jyri Niemi: 1

Don't forget to write-in who should be added in the next round. Also would be good to include a discussion/argument on why you voted for a particular prospect.

Voted for Brodie Dupont because he can bulldoze over players. I think he's really close to making the NHL, and will be there within a year or two. Considering that Yogan slipped to the 4th round when he was healthy, I don't feel like voting for him just yet now that he's injured. There's a reason guys slip, and a major injury certainly does not help his development.

Add Soryal.

Johnson edges Yogan for me. CJ seems like an NHL-caliber backup, if not a journeyman starter.

Add Jason Wilson.

Pashnin for me. I'm intrigued by this kid and the nastiness he can bring.

went with Pashnin. He was the #1 pick in the KHL draft for a reason, and not only because he was Russian and likely to stay there for a while. Hoping to see him in North America soon...

Add Inferno, he's got jam.

See, I knew that people were voting for him because of this. The KHL draft is nothing like the NHL entry draft. It's a waiver draft for prospects, that's it.

All the junior teams are tied to adult teams, but at the age of 18, they have to dump a couple players, so being #1 overall is like being the "best of the rest" of Russian prospects.

If the Russians thought Pashnin was any good, they would have protected him from the draft. That he was exposed is a sign that they see him as a future third-pairing defenseman in the KHL.

What nastiness does Pashnin bring? I wouldn't describe his game as nasty in any way.

People are just trying to grab at straws with him. They are thinking there must be a reason he was drafted #1 overall in the KHL. They think it means he was the best Russian 18 year old.

What they don't realize is that all the good players are protected from the draft because they are "raised" by the adult teams.

You can vote for Pashnin all you want, but please people, don't vote just because he was drafted #1 overall in the KHL. That means nothing. It's like being drafted #1 in the waiver draft.

hmm... see, I did not know that. I knew their system was different but was not sure how. Maybe next round, I'll have to change my vote... Although I was intrigued by what I heard of him during the prospects camp.

That's not exactly how it works, it's not a waiver draft. Like you said every club in the KHL (and all of Europe for that matter) has his own youth system. In the KHL draft all the KHL teams can secure the rights to any prospects not in the youth system of any KHL club. That's why there are usually some prospects from Scandinavia or even some Canadiens (I think Taylor Hall was drafted for example) taken in the later rounds.

So Pashnin was the best prospect that likely went to play in the KHL and that has not been developed in the youth system of a KHL club. He is 21 already though (22 in May) and I don't see too much upside in him. So Yogan for me and add Stajcer.

Johnson. Kolarik might get some attention soon though, as hes already played more NHL games than Pashnin is likely ever to.
