They couldn't pass up the deal to have a solid goalie for a year cheap. It is best for them so their young guys can develop properly in the minors instead of rushing them hurting any of their future potential. Now, come trade deadline, anyone think he waves his NMC to go to a contender? You know, use Islanders as a stepping stone to show he can still play in the NHL. I am just happy the Wings didn't get him. And as a from the previous thread, seems like the Islanders didn't care to screw over the Wings like some were saying. Guess Holland will have it out for Snow now.
The Islanders are not going to go through all this trouble, just to trade him in 4 weeks.
How do you know it's not more of the Sens scouts who are excellent? Because I look at Murray's signings and trades and it's clear he's a bad GM. If anything I'd say the scouting staff deserves the credit there.
Besides even if he is a great drafted, why would you sell yourself short on getting a complete GM? I mean if you needed a new transmission, but your mechanic could only change your oil, would you continue to use him?
I mean really...
There are a lot of factors involved. Hindsight's fantastic, but the Gonchar signing at the time was an excellent move, the fact that he's playing like he is is shocking, hard to see that coming. Hard to take the time to dissect it on a trade by tradem signing by signing basis, but Murray did what he had to do with Heatley, the team looked charged after that, made the POs in 5th, then hit a brick wall this year. Hard to see any of that coming, really hard.
