That contract offer from the Flyers isn't looking too bad at this point, huh Nabby. Have fun playing for a team of irrelevance.

Another great job by an agent putting his player in a position to get completely screwed. I bet Nabokov wishes he could have draft weekend back when he had an offer on the table from us.
I think we need the Marty Biron,"Greed it's *****" picture... I cant find it

It isnt the agents fault at all. The agent works for the player. This falls on the player.

Anyone know if other teams also put in a claim?

For 570K? Why not? Especially if you're the Islanders having all kinds of injury problems between the pipes.

I know it sounds terrible, but surely a team like the islanders doesn't want any help at the moment.

He likely offers a value with his salary. Some teams probably would have made the claim in order to block Detroit from adding him.

Here is a look from the Detroit perspective:

Quote:
Nabokov, 35, began the season playing in the Kontinental Hockey League for SKA St. Petersburg, but left for family reasons after playing in 22 games.

The Wings saw him as potential insurance while backup Chris Osgood recovers from sports hernia surgery. He isn’t expected back until late February to early March.

Jordan Pearce was called up to back up Jimmy Howard for today’s game against the Blackhawks, because if the Wings had gotten Nabokov, Pearce could have been sent back to the minors without being exposed on waivers. Holland said he expects the team will sent Pearce back after today and recall veteran Joey MacDonald from the Griffins. MacDonald has filled in for Osgood, going 1-2 with a .903 save percentage and 2.53 goals against average this season.

Holland said the Wings will continue to keep their eyes open, but Nabokov represented a special situation in that he didn’t require moving any assets in a trade and was cheap enough to fit onto a healthy Wings squad and still stay below the salary cap.

Well, it's a delicate balance... they still want to sell some tickets this year, and not (further) alienate STHs.

Lol. Yeah for the next two years. I wouldn't mind being an AHL goalie for $1.5 million a year. I mean, I'm sure he wants to be playing in the NHL, but you can't rally complain in that situation.

It will be interesting if he comes back next year and Boucher is let go...

Not surprised the Isles grabbed him. Nabby shouldn't be, either.

I thought for sure boucher would be let go, now not so sure. If he will take a 1 year 1mm deal i think he is resigned unless he totally falls off. They may and i really stress may be bale to move leighton if he shows he is healthy. Now the return just may be those futere considerations though. I can also see shooter doing leighton a solid and recall waivers since it is his last year of his deal.

Not sure we're going to be in a position to casually swallow 750K. I agree, though, I could see a team being open to taking Leighton for a year at 1.5M if he finishes out the year in the AHL healthy/strong. We might need to drop a rd in the draft to make that happen or something, though.

Leighton + 2nd for 3rd kind of thing.

He's getting paid 1.5M to play hockey.

C'mon man.

He doesn't want to be in the AHL.

It's easy for us to claim that life is good getting paid 7 figures to play in the AHL.

of course he doesnt, however he is used to it as that is where he has spent many days lol. The diff being he is being paid 1.5. He doesnt have to work again after hockey if he has half a brain with the contract shooter gave him. If he didnt like it he could have walked away from the money by terminating his contract and try to sign with another nhl team

He doesn't want to be making $50K a year doing some blue collar job either... I would hope professional athletes--especially those on the fringe like Leighton is--have a bit more perspective than you appear to.

Assuming Leighton and family manage their money wisely, $3M over a couple of years can go a long way towards making the rest of your life quite comfortable.
