Mike Smith to the Redwings

Redwings lost out on Nabokov. Not sure if they can live with the tandem of McDonald and Pearce. If I am correct, the Lightning have sent Mike Smith to Norfolk for a conditioning stint. Lightning seem satisfied with a Roloson/Ellis tandem. What would the Wings give up to acquire Smith for the time being. Yzerman, of course, was working with the Wings so he knows some of the players/prospects. Would Detroit be interested in Smith? A fresh start might do him justice also being on a better defensive team. Not really a fan of either team, just looking for ways for teams to fix their holes. I originally though Jiri Hudler as a return. But I think the Lightning need defense. What does everyone else think?

How is Mike Smith going to help Detroit? His cap hit is not good for us.

I don't think they would give up anything, the Nabakov signing was a shot in the dark and I'm sure they knew it. I don't think they're desperate for a goaltender, and if they were, I don't think Mike Smith would be the kind of guy they'd go after.

Doesn't have the experience of Nabokov, but makes all the sense in the world.

I know he had some bad games earlier this season (Boston), but he still has talent, certainly enough to play for Detroit as a back-up.

Smith has boatloads of potential just hasnt put it all together since his concussion. Shame really he looked so good when we first aquired him.

But yeah Smith for futures is about right.

I would think that the goal for the Wings would be to improve their goaltending. Mike Smith would likely not do that.
