Kings inquired about Marian Gaborik

Bruce Garrioch Sunday column

Quote:
Los Angeles GM Dean Lombardi is busy trying to get his team back in a playoff position before the Feb. 28 trade deadline. If the Kings don’t make the post-season, fingers will be pointed at Lombardi — who’s been desperately calling around the NHL trying to get scoring. Sources say Lombardi even called Rangers GM Glen Sather to see if he would move RW Marian Gaborik, who had 15 goals and 14 assists in 35 games heading into Saturday’s action. It’s doubtful New York — which is also fighting to stay in the playoff race — would deal one of its few offensive weapons unless Sather receives a tremendous offer from Lombardi. The Kings GM is not in a position to make that kind of move, but could give up prospect C Brayden Schenn to land immediate help

Agreed. I am not saying Gaborik is untouchable, but if Sather is going to move him it has to be a deal where people are saying, "What the hell was Lombardi thinking?" or "Sather should be arrested for grand larceny".

Simply said: They'll need to overpay to acquire Gaborik.

Uhh, Ill take Schenn + Simmonds. Or Schenn + Hickey. Schenn is going to be a #1 center in this league for a long time. I am not talking 60 points. I am talking 80-90 point center with leadership abilities who can play in EVERY situation. He is going to be a stud.

1: Log on to Hfboards.
2: Read NYR boards Brown for Gaborik proposal.
3: Create rumor based on said proposal and Schenn mentions.
4: Get site hits.
5: ???
6: Profit.

Id say Brayden Schenn +Tuebert + 1st

Or Schenn + Loktinov + 2nd

Only reason for change on the 2nd one is because we dont need defensive prospects as much and I think Loktinov will be scary mofo.

I can't help but wonder if Garrioch's "source" for this rumor was the Gaborik for Dustin Brown thread on these boards.

Remember Garrioch's "Malkin to Kings" rumor? Fun times...

Yeah, any proposal involving Schenn has to be considered IMO. I love Gabby, but...

Why is this so hard to believe? You don't think GMs call other GMs all the time asking about players? Even if Sather said Gaborik is available that doesn't mean a deal would ever get done. Sather could have said, yes, and you can have him for Doughty, Schenn and a 1st. I don't really get the outrage here. I mean honestly, what player isn't available?

On second thought I might hear a package including Simmonds. Simmonds is...dare I say it, a Torts kind of guy! But of course it would have to include much more than Simmonds. I like Simmonds but he's no Gaborik, not even remotely close. You mentioned Simmonds, Schenn, and Hickey. Gimme all three and you got a deal.

Of course this'd be a package built around Schenn, not Simmonds, but I'm a big Simmonds fan.

I'd probably do it for Schenn + Johnson + 1st, but not for much less. Trading Gaborik only makes sense if it fixes more than one need, because it immediately opens up another.

I would love to have Schenn, Simmonds, Hickey, and a first for Gaborik. It could really help our future.

Very interesting scenario, even though it is not gonna happen.

I'd be willing to throw in Gilroy too, if it were something like...

Gaborik, Gilroy for Schenn, Johnson, 1st, 3rd.

Just sayin...

Over or under on how many fans on the trade rumor board would say were dellusional to expect that kind of return for such an injury prone over paid player.

The ottowa suns trade rumors are almost as bad as the team, that's a load of ****, but targeting NY being one of the biggest fan markets is a smart move for the site to get some hits.

Gaborik may be a great scorer... In spurts. The guy is wildly inconsistent, both in effort and in production. He will score a bunch and then vanish for weeks.

If we could get Brayden Schenn (a LEGIT future star #1 center) and a little more added in, that would be a STEAL for us.

Gaborik is fragile physically (and I'm beginning to belive mentally as well), inconsistent, high priced.

Use the cap space to re-up our RFA's, sign the next wave of ELC, and still have cap room to improve the roster elsewhere...

I'd take that trade off without hesitation.

Gaborik is NOT leading this (or any other) team to a Championship.
