Don't you have better things to do?

To answer all the questions though, the Ottawa Sun is a legit newspaper. So according to the stipulations here on HF, any rumour posted by them or one of their sports writers is deemed legit. This also goes for any other large newspaper.

So like it or not, this thread will stay open.

This is not to say that you should believe everything you read though. I'd still recommend using your common sense when reading these rumours.
Appoint that new MOD already and let him worry about it so you can sit back and pull the levers.

I figured all the nominees got cold feet once they read the job description.

If people bothered to actually read the thread they are complaining about, they'd see that the Ottawa Sun isn't the only source itt.

Well, let's look at it this way:

with the blossoming of Pacioretty, and with Kostitsyn, Pouliot and Eller picking it up lately, we have at least 7 capable top 6 forwards once Cammalleri is back:

Cammalleri, Plekanec, Gionta, Gomez, Pacioretty, Kostitsyn and Pouliot

Plus, I am really comfortable with giving an offensive role to either Eller or Desharnais. So where would Zherdev fit? Likely no where.

We better get another dman, instead, and send back Weber or Picard to Hamilton.

He's got 17pts in 41gp, that's .41ppg not .5.

Philly also employs an offensive system, so it's certainly not there that he'll lack opportunities up front.
I agree he's better than AK, but coming here, in a very defensive system, I just don't see it working.

So the Ottawa Sun (aka Bruce Garrioch?) is reporting that we are interested in the Flyer's Zherdev... and goes on to take a little shot at Gauthier.

Hey if he comes in cheap I wouldn't mind having Zherdev at all, personally...

Habs need a physical player not a Zherdev. Remember last year in playoffs Flyers threw our small guys around. Need a Regehr type. A physical defenseman who can make good first pass.

Our #1 pick for Reghr? Then Spacek and one of our top forwards for Brayden Schenn? I know probably dreaming right? Those trades are too much in our favour

Zherdev will not get manhandled like that, he is big and tough to move off the puck a la Kovalev.

I don't know why it is so crazy to actually believe Martin can work with this "kid" and turn him into a player for our system.

Zherdev? Forget it. Now if Alfredsson is available, that's a call we should be making. He would look great on our 2nd line.

Better than Simmonds anyway.

Garrioch is useless anyway
How the heck would he be an upgrade on AK? Yeah he might score a few more goals but he is a non factor physically and defensively.

I wouldn't mind Alfredsson but they would probably want a fortune and he is on pace for 45 points with over 19 minutes a game.

Not interested at all in Zherdev as I don't believe he would do well here especially in Martin's system. If he has been in the doghouse in Philly most of the year then I can picture him being in the doghouse with Martin at some point.

Wow people are really complaining about a thread talking about a silly little rumour..

HF never ceases to amaze me sometimes with some of the petty stuff.. Instead of complaining why don't they just choose to ignore the thread.. Unbelievable..

Garrioch almost makes Ek look credible. Don't wan Zherdev, don't want to give the Flyers so much as the time of day. Nothing in this rumour to like for me.

Yeah if this rumor is true and they want a lot for him then I regret even posting this thread but if he was aquireable, then I would give it serious thought wouldn't you? If we can have him for a 3rd or soemthing of the likes...

That's false, Zherdev has twice as many goals as Halpern and the same number of points with five less games played.

Player GP G A P +/- PIM

Jeff Halpern 47 7 12 19 5 21
Nikolay Zherdev 42 15 4 19 6 16

Even if Jeff Halpern had more points than Zherdev it would be foolish to think that he was a better player because of it.

I also have a Patrick Traverse one I could go back to, it doesn't mean a whole lot. Don't make me pull out the Traverse, because I'll do it.

True. How many would agree that Zherdev is a top six forward? And who is more qualified to be a top six forward on the Habs roster: Pouliot, Pacioretty, Eller, or Zherdev? I think Zhedev would be the most productive of the lot.

But he doesnt have to play in our top6.

Pouliot is being very productive in our bottom 6 with no PP time and out top6 is still being shuffled every game. Not saying Zherdev would be able to accomplish that but, if he were to be had for peanuts (wishful thinking though) it's worth a try.
