JS Giguere

It is speculated that he could possibly waive his no trade clause if a contender was interested in him. He has below average numbers for the past 3 seasons and is making a lot of money for only this season.

What would teams be willing to give up?

A prospect who never reached his potential?

A 4-6th round pick?

A player like Giggy has a wide range of value depending on the team and their needs, you might find answer to be all over the place. Having said all that...why even bother? Don't you know everyone under values all Leaf players?

His contract is way too much. Toronto is stuck with him.

He has a solid pedigree of playoff success, I could see a contender picking him up if it was for dirt cheap. Philly might offer up a very late pick of a depth prospect. Or maybe a team who is looking to to get into the playoffs, like San Jose or Atlanta, as a backup or something.

His value is Jason Blake and Vesa Toskala.

One of the most overpaid players in the league this season. None of the contenders have enough cap space (or need) to fit his bloated contract.

If he can have a strong 2nd half, I think a team may be interested for a 4th or 5th or a below average prospect.

His contract basically dictates that he's worthless. There are very few teams that are looking for an upgrade in goal, and even fewer can afford to take on the $1.3m remaining on his contract at the deadline.

The only realistic teams that might consider trading for him are Washington & Colorado, and both of those teams will call Florida about Vokoun first.

I think that is the best answer I have heard on here in a while. There is no universal value here, it comes down to interest and specific team situation. A team would have to take on quire a bit of salary here, I Dreger said it was close to 2mil if dealt on the deadline. But a team might offer the Leafs a roster player with a contract they would like to move and maybe a late pick for Giggy's expriing contract and winning pedigree.

who knows it is a wait and see situation.

If he is moved by Feb. 28, it will be to one of...

Washington
San Jose
Colorado

...but, as a previous poster noted, it will all depend on what happens with Vokoun.

Florida is 4 games out of the playoffs. If they're within 6 points by the deadline, Tallon will hold on to Tomas (and probably start talking about re-signing him to a 3-year deal) and Giguere's value will jump considerably the day-of.

San Jose won't be committing that kind of money to goaltending. They need to spend it on the blueline.

I doubt if he would be even claimed off waivers.

what if a team knew that they weouldn't lose a pick till next year? like for example what if they were able to give us a big contract and say a 2nd in 2012? like for example

TO BOSTON GIGUERE

TO LEAFS RYDER +2012 2ND

Now I know that Boston doesn't needd a goalie but would a deal like that from a different team work? they get rid of a big contract and don't lose a pick until 2012.

and thats almost better for the Leafs anyay since we have all our picks in 2012 I'd be looking to add as many extra picks to that draft as possible and not worry so much about 2011

Anything less than a 3rd round would be insulting him. And regarding his big contract... it's up at the end of the year.

agreed except washington would be better off with varlamov/neuvirth and colorado would be better off with anderson/budaj (even with andersons inconsistent play)

he really has no value to anyone but the bruins, and that value holds only in him being in the Toronto net

When a team has Tim Thomas and Tuukka Rask (I freakin' love that name) as their goalies, then that team is not shopping for one.

Toronto's GA isn't "among the highest" in the league. They aren't even top-10. Giguere just hasn't been very good; his lateral movement, once a weakness, has now become a gaping hole in his game, especially in today's NHL. I saw Toronto in a shoot-out a week or so ago with Giguere, and each of the shooters got him going side to side, and each of them scored.

Like I said, I doubt he would be picked up on waivers.
