I thought Sekera was absolutely awful tonight. Probably his worst game as a Sabre. So sloppy. Must not have eaten his wheaties.
Really, I thought he looked pretty good.
What a weird game. First period was a joke, but they really were quite as bad the rest of the way as it seemed. They had a fair number of good scoring chances (2 crossbars, Hecht's failure to jam it past the goalies little toe, and a few others - I think Poms and Vanek each had some good chances). Meanwhile, the first 2 Isles goals were pretty lucky skate pinballs (not an excuse).
Anyway, the GBU is pretty easy here:
• Gerbe (even if had no goals, I'd still put him in this category)
• Ennis - buzzing
Not a game I've watched yet -- thankfully had to chaperone an event at my daughter's school last night. I did catch Gerbe's two quick goals... good to see the kid starting to find the range. Heaven knows, they need someone, anyone, to put the biscuit in the net, even moreso with Stafford out.

Myers obviously just wants to get this season over. I don't blame him but I'd like it if he would play meaner and put up more points if he's going to score on himself and turn the puck over every 5 seconds.
I went to that abomination on Friday. It was overall the worst hockey I have witnessed in person this season. Like others, I think Ennis, Gerbe, and Sekera played well. I would even add Lalime in there.
I personally am looking forward to the end of this season. There are a handful of players that need a change of scenery. If Rivet and Neids retire, and they move Lalime, then the others I'd like to see play for other teams are Connelly, Gaustad, Hecht, and Morrisonn. There are a few more but those are at my top list. It was pretty stunning and cool to see Gerbe score so quickly twice, Good for him.
I hope he can keep up the high energy game. It seems he's most effective only if he plays that way. I don't expect him to be a 30+ goal scorer, but if he is under 20, or loses the high energy game, no thanks, we have wayyyyyy too many of those guys here already.
The ugly... Myers for most of the season
Ive been liking Gerbe a lot lately. Now lets see what he can do on a line of some skilled players...not Grier or Gaustad.
-Gerbe-Fiesty, fast, nice back hand
-Sekera seemed fine to me-Minus the blunder with Weber there...not sure why they were on the same side of the ice let alone 2 feet away from eachother.
-Vanek was fine-what a shot he has.
-Losing to the islanders...again
-Watching Miller go from Vezina winner to this.
-The glare Miller gave to big Tyler after the puck went off his skate.
Neither of those goals were on Miller, that's for sure. Perfect deflection and what has to be the 15th goal against that's gone in off of a defensemen's skate.
Seriously though, how does that keep happening? The D needs to start being more aware of where they are in front of the net and where the puck is coming... or something. When it happens this much it's gotta be more than bad luck.
Stop being an Ennis hater. He has looked very good the last 7-8 games. He and Gerbe are the only ones who are creating and burying chances consistently.
In this game? no he did not look good. Pardon me if I have defensive expectations of my players. His turnovers and shoddy defensive play resulted in several scoring chances against and a couple of penalties as well (Montador's first penalty comes to mind).
His play on the power play has been much improved. But he still has just 2 even strength points over those last 7-8 games you mention, and he is a minus eight over that span. As I mentioned in another thread, if he wants to be anything more than a power play specialist at this level, his defensive play and penchant for turnovers around both blue lines MUST change.
Sunday he looked good. Kept things much simpler and didn't have any glaring defensive gaffes. But this is not Sunday's GBU.
