For every time he actually showed up yeah. But for every time he was supposedly coming here, I'd have enough money to buy the Rangers.

These Jarome Iginla trade rumors out of Montreal saying he has been or is being traded to NYR are utter nonsense. I grow weary.

Essentially. It was a rumor to begin with, and there is no means of disproving the theory that the Rangers are at least interested in Iginla, but no deal is done, and by the reaction of analysts, its nowhere near being done either.

Yes, I'm serious. I still wouldn't love it. Is a 33 year old star in the beginning of his decline really the answer at 7M/year? It would essentially tie our hands for the next two years. If this was 4 or 5 years ago I'd be all over it. But not today. Not with the direction this team is headed.

If it didnt cost us our future I wouldnt mind iginla. The guy still has a lot left to offer. He can certainly still score.

But anyways I'd rather go for Weiss or Hemsky. Those two are more realistic.

I certainly agree with the 1st line of this post, but I can't say i feel the same about Hemsky/Weiss.

I don't think acquiring Weiss is realistic, let alone good asset management. He is a very good #2 center, and a solid, solid option as a 1b center, and I think we have the same type of players in Stepan and Anisimov. I don't think he gives us something that we already don't have. It would take a lot to get Weiss out of Florida as well, considering his importance to the franchise. He also has a NMC.

As for Hemsky, I like him as a player, but he's just way too injury prone for my liking. He currently has a concussion, and missed 60 games last year with season ending on his shoulder. He hasn't played more than 74 games since the 05-06 season. And I don't think Edmonton is interested in trading him. I imagine they would like to see Hemsky/Hall playing together in the future. Hemsky has stated that he is ready to play through an Oiler rebuild as well, so he seems content in Edmonton.

Weiss had back to back 60 point seasons the last two years. He's currently on pace for 57 points this year. He's making only $3.1 million through 2012-2013 season. He'd be turning 30 going into free agency. A lot of our prospects could and should be ready by that year to replace him. He has a lot of talent, he has speed. He hasnt been on good panthers teams. He would not be a bad move. But yes the cost might be too much.

I agree on Hemsky. Too much of an injury history. I've just always liked him.

I must admit, this intrigues me; the Rangers do have the assets to get Iginla, and we have the 2011 cap space to make the move. We'd be KILLED on the summer cap, so salary would have to go the other way because of the second year on Iginla's deal, but if we were to give the assets they covet and require them to take Redden (look, crazier crap has happened and his cap hit is, I beleive lower, albeit slightly, I'd be on board. The pieces that would go the other way would stink, but it'd be nice to actually get rid of Redden and get some production from that cap hit.

Now, all that said, I realize I took the rumor to level that is even further unsubstantiated so I apologize.

What theory? From whom? Some unknown guy on twitter or a radio station in Montreal? Pierre LeBrun has written extensively on Iginla. He has never mentioned the Rangers in connection with Iginla. In fact,I have heard him many times on the CBC hockey radio show with Jeff Marek say the market for Iginla would be limited(with LA being the only viable option)IF he waived his NTC due to Iginla's contract. $7M per for the next two seasons. LeBrun has said on CBC Hotstove and written on ESPN about the Rangers and Brad Richards. Nothing on Iginla. The Rangers need a #1 center. I'll believe Pierre over some guy who calls Boomer and Carton as a fan and passes himself off an an "insider".

The player has a no trade clause. Upper management told him in November that he was not being moved when speculation popped up about his future. Jay Feaster has said that he is not trading Iginla. The player does not want to leave Calgary. The Calgary writers laugh off the Iginla rumors.

So anyone can report anything and then it becomes somewhat credible. That's a sad state of affairs.

He would be great for us in the playoffs, I would love to get him but the cost has to be right.

I would give up a first and I think that would be essential to a rebuilding Flames organization. After that it's really hard to do this deal.

Matt Gilroy or Michael Del Zotto / Sauer would be included I imagine. I would prefer to keep Del Zotto / Sauer obviously.

Now the flames will ask for Cally, Dubi, Stepan, Anisimov or someone along those lines. This is where I'd offer up Grachev and might even consider giving up Kolarik with him.

Now you have to dump some salary and that means Avery / Drury / Christensen. If they take our Captain and he waives his NTC, we then most likely have to take some garbage back in return too.

So
Best scenario - Grachev, Gilroy, Kolarik, Drury & 1st Round Pick
I can live with that.

Iffy scenario - Grachev, Del Zotto, Kolarik, Drury (or Avery), 1st & 2nd Round Picks.

Worst case scenario - Anisimov, Del Zotto, Grachev, Drury, TWO 1st Round Picks.

Assassinate Sather scenario - Dubinsky or Callhan, Anisimov, Del Zotto & 1st Round Pick.
