Damn I thought this was speculation by someone on twitter on something that the Flyers were interested . That being said, I dont see him coming here at all
Hard to believe there's even thought of STL giving up on him. And even so, why would they trade their former 1st overall if it wasn't for something huge like Giroux/JVR which there's no chance in hell we're giving up.
All the Flyers need is a 3rd line winger who has better hands than Powe or Nodl. They are probably the least likely team in the league to trade for Johnson.
I just don't see Homer trading anybody off this team. Carle makes too much money - maybe somebody's overpaid winger could be had from a team that needs somebody like Carle - but the coach and his teammates always say what a great year he's having.
Maybe Zherdev? But don't the Flyers kind of need him? Seems like Laviolette is starting to get through to him. Carcillo isn't the kind of player teams look to add for a playoff push.

Matt Carle + Nik Zherdev + 2011 1st + conditional 2012 2nd (if Nik doesn't resign with them) for EJ
I HATE giving away high draft picks but in this case I'd do it. It's far far better than when we traded a 1st for freaking Eminger. Just think if we could take back all of that sequence. We remove Matt Carle and Dan Carcillo from our team and add in John Carlson (our 1st rnd pick), Steve Downie, Scottie Upshaw + 2011 2nd rnd pick. Note that we'd have to give back the two 3rd rnd picks we got (Jacob Deserres & Simon Bertilsson).
Heck, I'd consider trading Carle + Leino for EJ. It would give us enough money to resign Zherdev if we wanted though I'd rather trade them Zherdev + 1st than Leino.

I wouldn't do that during the season because the difference between Carle and Johnson is far less then the difference between Leino and Carcillo. Our defense is cup quality without Erik Johnson, adding him is a luxury and I love the kid, it just doesn't make sense for them to do this season.
I can't possibly see them trading EJ. And if for some ridiculous reason they do, we won't even come close to making the most attractive offer. Combinations of Carle, Coburn, Zherdev, picks, and our "eh" prospects won't cut it IMO. EJ is goooood.
EJ should return a "top prospect" (and not OUR "top prospect" because we don't really have one...I mean a REAL "top prospect"), a first, and a quality roster player IMO. Either that or a Giroux-like return. Young, affordable, NHL guy with equal upside.
I'd entertain a JVR for EJ trade. Assuming that is what they were thinking. I agree with others that state this is not a deal we do this year, but Carle + JVR for EJ + ? is something I would consider in the offseason/draft day.

I'd do this, though I'm not too sure if St. Louis. EJ is a future (current) #1 d-man. Once Pronger and Kimmo are gone, the Flyers will be in trouble in that respect.
EJ would be best dealt during the off season, for both teams.
I'm one that thinks Kimmo will likely retire after this contract, and EJ would be great to fill in his role as he leaves.
But right now, we don't need to shake things up by trading the top even strength point defenseman, and a cheap contract power-forward that drives the net.
