Kirk Muller will leave Habs at end of the season

Taken from the Habs board;

http://www.cyberpresse.ca/sports/hoc...-prochaine.php

Article states that Muller will pursue a head coaching job in the NHL after his contract ends with the Habs this season.

I know this isn't usually considered big news when an assistant coach leaves an organization, but Muller has been a great "player's coach" and the real constant behind our yearly #1 ranked PK (or close). We all knew he would get a chance at being head coach, his contract didn't allow him to pursue the positions available last year (he did receive offers from what the article says). His contract is finishing this year, and with head coaching jobs to be available in New Jersey and Ottawa, he might be the #1 candidate.

Thoughts?

Knew this was coming, apparently there was some interested teams last off-season. He'll be hard to replace.

Kirk Muller as always a favorite for me. Even as number 9 for the Devils.

I think he would be a great coach and would fit in NJ really well...if they want him.

this is an unfortunate truth. i seriously hope the habs can do something to keep him and not let him go.

Aside from moving him to head coach and getting Jaques Martin out into a management position, i dont think it will be possible..

It would suck to loose him, because i think he is great!

It would make sense, him going to New Jersey given his history there.

But it also made sense for John MacLean to go to New Jersey.

noooo

who's next in line at the country club?

I hope those posts that talked about Muller And Pearn taking a bigger coaching role isn't true. Imagine if the only thing that was holding us from being the Panthers was Kirk Muller.

ya i dont see the habs making the playoffs next year or any other season ALF is behind the bench.

I'm a strong believer Muller has more to do with the teams success than ALF

I'm really not sure I want another 80s Devil as a head coach of New Jersey.

Well Ottawa will have an opening, I don't doubt he'd be a candidate. How is Muller with the young kids?

He's got to be one of the front runners for head coaching positions that are available.

He's young and he's shown that he's able to work in many situations, and he's a vocal coach too which teams seem to like.

Toronto's PP and PK have consistently been one of the worst since Ron Wilson has taken over.

Muller would definitely help in that regard. We need a complete wipe out of our coaching staff and bring in a new voice.

In fairness, people would sooner credit the Bell Centre janitor with the team's success than Jacques Martin.

With the way that Lou loves to bring back former Devils and his reverance for the Montreal organization, it would be an upset the next head coach of the Devils isn't Carbo or Muller.

This sucks, Muller is awesome. I really hate to see him go, but he deserves to be a head coach.

A great many NJD fans would be upset if Carbonneau became the next head coach of New Jersey. NJ also has to decide if they're going to start rebuilding or keep making vain attempts at the Cup at the same time, Muller would likely want to know if he's going to burn time or be coaching a team building towards success.
