Does Regier even know what the word trade means???
Anyway, regarding the Gragnani call-up, it would be time for them to play him on D and see what he can give. He has never been given a real chance despite his 4 games two games west, 2 years ago where I thought he did quite good. He needs to stay on D because with the speed he has it's the only way for him to be able to feed properly the forwards and then join the rush, one of the thnigs he does superbly!
Mark my word, if they do not give the kid a chance he is gone to the KHL (he had fabulous offers last year) or to some other European team (Swiss comes to mind, they also offered him quite lucrative contracts last summer, I talked to a scout).

I really don't think they'll get much of an offer, or an offer at all, for Rivet's services at the deadline. I think they should consider waiving him around the trade deadline if they don't have any offers. I doubt anyone will pick him up at his full salary, so re-entry waivers is an option. A team may take a flier on him for $450k in real salary and without having to give up any assets. The Sabres would have to pay the other $450k, but if he's not playing, anyways, I don't see much of a difference between buying him out and sitting him in the press box every night. Plus, it would alleviate an awkward situation and potentially give him a chance to go to a winning situation late in his career.

They do need to see what they have in Grags, though. He's earned the call-up. He has the raw talent to be a NHL'er, but we have to see how much he's improved. I tend to agree that he's leaving the organization if he isn't given a fair opportunity.

OK he is gone... after how he played in the 3 games he was given (limited time I must add), if they don't bring him up he is not going to sign with them next year. Enough is enough, how long do they think they can toy around with him? I don't blame him, he was never given a fair chance. They have been more generous and patient with a lot of other prospects. My opinion is Ruff doesn't like him and Regier does.

Stafford is probably back tonight. His return gives them four full lines of forwards and three defensive pairings. It makes sense.

Besides, I wouldn't presume this is the last we're going to see of Grags this season. I have a strong feeling that Butler will be on the move at the deadline, regardless of whether the team is a buyer or seller. In they somehow find a taker for Rivet, I think he'll be gone, as well. And I haven't even mentioned the possibility of moving Montador at the deadline. I do think he'll have another opportunity in Buffalo this season.

The Sabres have eight defensemen... Why have him up there unless he's going to play forward?

Well put. He had a few opportunities on the powerplay and I liked what I saw in terms of his jump in those situations. Butler seems to have fallen completely out of favor and it wouldn't surprise if he is sent packing, even if his value is currently surpressed.

He wasn't horrible, he wasn't great... but there is some skill there to work with.

I don't see how Butler could be traded at this point. He makes $850k and is a RFA next year meaning a team would really, really have to like him to be interested and if such a team existed I'd imagine they would have contacted Regier already.

Maybe, maybe not.

Marc-Andre Gragnani has been sent back down to Portland to make room for Stafford. Coach Lindy Ruff was pleased with his stint.
"I thought he played well. Obviously he didn't have any points but I thought, defending, he did a nice job. He's a very good puck mover. I thought he used his legs well which is probably his biggest asset."

You may be right... maybe Ruff likes him but Regier bad moves during the off-season are blocking Gragnani from coming up... we'll see what happens but I am not too optimistic to see him again this year... or next because I really think he will go away...

Or maybe he's not an NHL-caliber player?

Unfortunately for Marc defensemen like him have been slowly phased out of the league the past couple of years. MAB has been tossed around the league as a PP specialist but he has one of the best shots in the league. With a salary cap it's also harder to just keep someone around as a "specialist". I think MAG looked pretty decent in his call-up but I'm still not convinced he will be anything more than a Kirill Koltsov, a player who never even got a shot at the NHL.

are you sure you're not confusing different Sabre prospects, LMJMQ? Where has it been stated that Gragnani's leaving the Sabres organization if he's been the most consistent Pirate the last two years?

Mancari's been the one who has yet to consistently stick in Buffalo, but there have been a few busts as well that have left the organization (Zagrapan and Schutz) FOR DIFFERENT REASONS, and certain situations as to which those two fit in w/ the Sabre philosophy right now; will that change if Regier is not there, as has been rumored past the transition..... It's good to see Gragnani, Ellis, Adam, and Byron get opportunities when capitalized on.

you don't pull off a 5 assist gm (something only 3 others have even accomplished nor seen here since '02-03....

why would Byron credit Mancari for helping him up to this level if it wasn't true?
