Ryan Suter Article

Preds' Future Begins With Suter

"Itís billed as the Milwaukee Admirals Prospect Conditioning Camp, but at least one participant will probably never again touch the ice of an American Hockey League rink."

Wow, I'm surprised Trotz actually said they expected Suter to be on the Preds roster next year! Good news IMO! Under contract we would have Suter, Zidlicky, Timonen, and Eaton. Hnidy would be an RFA, and I think Hamhuis's contract needs to be renewed (???). Not bad considering the money we have to spend

Mark Eaton, Dan Hamhuis, Ryan Suter, Kimmo Timonen and Marek Zidlicky. That makes a very nice group of defensemen. As for a sixth man, we have Shane Hnidy and Andreas Lilja to look at, but with a new CBA, we could pick up a good veteran who could add some experience to the team - especially post-season experience.

Anyhoo...

That lineup would look great with the addition of an Adam Foote. I can't see him coming to Nashville (he's going to want more of a Cup guarantee in my opinion), but this lineup would be nice:

Foote - Timonen
Hamhuis - Eaton
Zidlicky - Hnidy/Suter/Lilja

According to the ECHL website, Hnidy was tendered an offer before the July 1 deadline. Just a little info I found.

That had to be of last year. The clubs aren't allowed to be making offers to anyone until the CBA is resolved.

No, his ECHL club tendered him an offer, not his NHL club. Housekeeping, really, just so if he plays in the league they still hold his rights.

It is my understanding that Eaton is not under contract for 2005/6

I also thought Lilja signed a contract with a team in Sweden for 2005/6 without an NHL out clause...can't find the reference now.

yeah, lilja is out. I'm not sure, but Eaton might be RFA...even so, I can't see him being let go just yet.

I don't think Andreas Lilja is much of a loss. I like Shane Hnidy, but we never really got to see how well he meshed with the Predators in 03/04, with only nine games played. Mark Eaton is still one of the most under-rated defensemen in the league, IMO. I'd really be disappointed to see him go. And Adam Foote would definitely be my number one choice for a free-agent pickup.

Anyhoo...

I'll agree with the consensus that Foote would be a great FA pickup. As for Eaton, I think he's treading on thin ice with management. That being said, I don't think other teams have valued him as much as the Preds have, so I would be surprised if he wasn't resigned - he's a very stable d-man that has made great strides and I'd like to see him in the lineup

I really thought we signed Eaton to a 1 to 1.2 million dollar deal.

I'm pretty sure we did. But I don't have any idea for how long. It might have been for only a year.

I'd think that whole Grand Rapids thing is water under the bridge by now. Eaton was obviously misinformed by his agent about signing with an AHL team aside from Milwaukee, and the Predators' feelings about such a move.

Anyhoo...

I've seen Ryan at the WC (and even if he had not much ice time) he impressed me alot: Can't wait to see him in the Preds uniform in maybe a year or earlier.
Skating backwards with the puck at his stick always with the head up looking for the pass! Very impressive this little kid!
We'll have alot of him - no doubt!
