Forward Depth

John Paddock the Flyers Assistant GM was just on NHL Live. When asked about any possible moves he stated that they are only looking at getting "Deeper not better" at the forward position. And that they were not looking at any major moves that would cost them a lot. He pointed out that when Carter and Gagne were hurt last year in the playoffs they were thin at forward and they do not want to run into that situation again. I am thinking along the lines of some vet who could be had for cheap.

Thoughts?

Conroy is on waivers and at league minimum. Would help on Pk and face offs . Doubt he makes it to us though .

I let other people do the work for me and just frequent the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk board.

53% on FO's this year - and 39. Added depth, but only played 18 games for the Flamers.

It'd be nice to see him here, he is a GREAT team guy.

I could take or leave Conroy. Don't think he would be all that helpful but certainly wouldn't help. If the Flyers don't put in a claim for him (or he doesn't make it), I'm sure there is another Conroy-esque player out there that could be had on a waiver claim or a minimal price.

id love for conroy to fall to us, good on faceoffs veteran former 20 goal guy in his last year in the league. its the kind of situation where you can really expect to get his all out of him.

as far as getting deeper i couldnt tell you why but i infer that hes going to try and get some talent for this phantoms team.

Unless we got after a big name which i hope we dont Id like to see us go after

Cole
Glencross
Reasoner
Madden
Sjostrom

In that order. Of course I'd like to see Scottie Upshall return but I know that's a pipe dream.

I'm leaning more and more towards Erik Cole, just because he would add some size while not being out of place on a scoring line.
I think we need someone with size to go in front of the net, Hartnell is good but we need a second guy. It was a very underrated aspect of Gagne's game and I think we will need it come playoff time.

Erik Cole and Marty Reasoner would be ideal for this team.

Cole-Richards-JVR
Hartnell-Briere-Leino
Nodl/Powe/Carcillo-Giroux-Carter
Nodl/Powe/Carcillo-Reasoner-Betts

What's Cole's contract? Depending on whether or not it's sensible, I like his game. He could work here.

a couple of months ago I said in another thread I thought Conroy would be a good pick up. Content to be a healthy scratch but good teammate and good on faceoffs. He would be a nice pickup incase someone like Betts goes down.

Don't you know he is the second coming of Gretzky?! He just wasn't used right in Philly.

What about Konopka? Solid defensively, we don't loose any toughness with him in the lineup, and very good at faceoffs.

Id be fine with Konopka for the 4th line. We should signed him instead of Shelley in the offseason. He is great on faceoffs and can PK

I considered Konopka as an option, but his PIMs are a major concern. The Flyers have done a good job staying out of the box the past 4 or 5 games, and I fear that Konopka would lead them back down that path of excessive shorthanded situations.
