Flyers with Carcillo...

The Flyers are 22-4-2 with Carcillo in the lineup.

The Flyers are 11-8-3 without Carcillo in the lineup.

Discuss.

How many of those losses when he was out of the lineup also had Pronger out?

Useless stat in my opinion... pure coincidence. The flyers have a great team right now, they will have good and bad clusters of games, although they haven't had a prolonged drought lately :knocksonwood:

Carcillo in or out is inconsequential really. If the stat is used to show how a better player that gets more minutes affects a team in and out of the lineup, it might be worth something, but this is just how it happened to pan out when he was in the lineup.

Carcillo for Hart?

...if he doesn't win it, he'll at least be a shoe-in for the Lady Byng.

Made that same observation some time ago. I do like Carbomb's play and he brings a certain grit and entertainment value with him. If Homer doesn't trade him, he will probably take Shelley's place in the playoffs.

The team had even more astounding numbers last year with Powe.
38-21-4 with Powe
3-14-2 without Powe

However, Powe's injury and the losing streak last year happened to coincide. While I don't think in either case, Carcillo this year and Powe last year, that they were the deciding factor and what drives these wins and losses, I do think it shows the importance of cheap role players.

And then cross multiply the reciprocal of Powe with Coatsey, then we will have the answer.

too soon... i'm still sour over his lady byng snub from last year

also, we clearly need to multiply by the square root of the number of those games that superstar was suspended or scratched.

Carcillo brings some serious grit, he knows how to aggravate the other team and can some some goals.

But as you saw he has a horrible rep with the refs, and gets called for any little thing.

He does, but that was guaranteed to be evened up as a retaliatory penalty last night no matter who had done it. Just wasn't very smart.

The 10-minute misconduct getting called was hilarious though. Usually you need to actually do something rather than just act like a fool to essentially be ejected from a game.

Agreed. He has a very short leash with the refs, so he gets called for anything and everything. Couple that with the ability to do something stupid at any moment, and he's more of a liability than an asset.

It'd be nice if that 15-20 goal scorer some people promised showed up though.

Similar numbers last year when Blair Betts played as opposed to when he didn't. What did that ultimately mean?

Well in that case even if it did mean anything it was only injury that kept him out. He's a regular and important to the PK for sure. It's different for Carcillo because he's a healthy scratch when not in the lineup right now. Should we find a way to work him in is what this split proposes, even if it is insignificant data.

Personally, I still say keep Shelley in the press box until we play the Rags or something, dress Carbomb as a regular irritant.

This. IMO he certainly brings more to the table than Shelley most nights. I don't think it is a necessity to have a heavyweight enforcer unless of course of a special circumstance. (Playing players like Boogaard and Orr.)

ideally we should be running Shelley and Carcillo on alternate nights. Or even more ideally, we trade Carcillo for an upgrade and put Shelley in the press box for the playoffs

this is about as useless as the "flyers are undefeated with zherdev out of the lineup" stat. i highly doubt the flyers record is that contingent on carcillo's presence. they win games by playing well as a team. carcillo is a part of that, but would we really be that different a team without him?

While the statistic doesn't mean Carcillo is our MVP, I think it at least has to be in the head of coaches when they make the decision of whether to scratch Carcillo or Shelley.

Carcillo brings something to this hockey team. I love him in a 4th line role.
